Shankland a better player than Nisbet and Dykes.....

Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland, who did not make it into the latest Scotland squad, is a better player than Lyndon Dykes and Kevin Nisbet, who were included, says former Rangers and Hearts player Derek Ferguson.

    Thoughts?

I believe that Everything in can be drawn from a scene or quote from The Big Lebowski.

In this instance the quote ďyeah well thatís just like your opinion, manĒ springs to mind... :)

He certainly a better all round player than I thought

He's definately in and around both of them for me

Goals in the top league in Scotland:

    Dykes - 11 in 28 games (Livingston)
Nisbet - 12 in 47 games (Partick Thistle and Hibs)
Shankland - 7 in 45 games (Aberdeen and Dundee Utd)

I was definitely surprised at his all round play when he stepped in a while back, that being said Dykes is without doubt better for the team, his hold up is excellent despite not being a massive goal threat himself.

I'm interested to see how Nisbet does if he gets a shot because out of the strikers right now I think he's maybe the closest you'd say to a natural goalscorer, can score out of nothing. Maybe Che Adams is a nice balance although he's an unknown to me

I have to admit I have been watching Lawrence Shankland closely this season at every opportunity and I have been impressed by his all round play, linking up, striking and bringing others into play

He also seems to have a very good work ethic and attitude

I am happy with Christian Doidge and Kevin Nisbet as they both work hard but I would not be averse to Lawrence Shankland joining our merry wee band

    They are all different,
Dykes is a massive grafter and battler and holds the ball up but is not a scorer of goals
Nisbet makes clever runs, is a calm finisher but can disappear out of games
Shankland has the best feet and is the best finisher but offers little mobility or workrate.

If you could put Shanklands feet on the other two they would great players.
If you could put Dykes fight, graft and mobility into Shankland you might have a top level striker.

I was chuffed for Nisbet getting called up but I was surprised. Apart from the late equaliser at Celtic hes not done much since December and the transfer request. In that respect Iím surprised he wasnít called up in 2020 when he was banging them in. Shankland has been largely disappointing since moving up, certainly compared to his scoring rate in the championship. Dykes is above both of them because heís shown Clark he can play in that system and was literally faultless in the Serbia game. In that respect Iím not sure what Ferguson is talking about, Dykes is rightfully first choice.

Those are pretty low numbers for any striker.

Not sure that Partick & Aberdeen should be thrown in given how long ago that was.

I think he's a very good player and would score more in our league in a better team. Personally i don't think there is much between them.

    This is more reflective.

Dunno about your Shankland and Dykes stats - but I DO know Nisbet hasn't played 37 League games for us.

Nisbet has appeared in 30 league games for Hibs, not sure how many of those were as a sub though.
He's scored 12 league goals and has 2 assists.

He's appeared in 6 league cup games and has scored 2 goals and has 1 assist in those games.

Roughly a goal or assist (most often a goal) every other game

    Seriously?

I've watched Shankland a few times this season and, I'm sorry, but I'm not convinced. Yes, one or two wonder goals, but he's largely been anonoumus in the games I've saw. Also, he lacks physicality and awareness. He's still young at this level.

Saying that, Lyndon Dykes has been very poor since joining QPR and he's still to convince Scotland fans too.

Dykes made a strong start for Scotland but Iím not convinced any of the 3 of them are that great yet.

An awful lot to prove, but all 3 have potential.

Wikipedia is very good for stats. People just look at the top, which is only league matches, instead of going down to the detailed bit.

Wikipedia is probably the best site on the internet. The idea that just anyone can edit it and it stays there spreading misinformation is itself, misinformation. It is very well moderated.

I don't think there is enough in it. Hopefully there is healthy competition between the three mentioned because in good form I'd happily pick any of them.

Good job you donít then eh.

He might be a slavering hun but I donít think heís far off the mark. Itís certainly not an outrageous claim.

Itís not that long since we were comparing Christian Doidge to him and a surprising majority on here would rather have had doidge than Shankland apparently. And then Nisbet was miles ahead of Shankland as well (nothing to do with Shankland being the only one that wasnít going to be a hibs player of course)

I think Shankland is a better striker than Dykes. I hope Nisbet turns out to be better than them both.

Shankland is a decent player and probably needs to be at a better team than Dundee Utd to see if he scores more goals with more chances. As it stands his overall goals and contribution in the top division is pretty average.

Iíd take him if any of our strikers were sold but absolutely would not swap him for Nisbet or for Doidge.
