He and Greavesie introduced much needed humour to football coverage. Remember that it's supposed to be fun?

After them we were left with the likes of Keys and Grey and football coverage became about money and sleaze and hasn't looked back.

Saint and Greavsie was a much watch for me. He was a great presenter and that programme was a trailblazer for much of the sports TV we see now. RIP a great player and TV presenter
There was so little football on back then it was a must watch for everyone.

It was brilliant show. Absolutely gutted he’s gone.

Think it was in the early 70s the BBC ran a competition to discover a new sports commentator.A welsh lad won and went on to have a reasonable career. Anyone could enter and they were not identified. The last 4 appeared on TV(still without being revealed) and a winner was chosen .To everyone's surprise Ian St John was revealed as one of the finalists It was said that his accent was a bit too strong for commentary. As we know he went on to have a good broadcasting career.

Yep, 100%. Watching Saint and Greavsie at lunchtime on a saturday was a ritual before heading to the game. Brilliant stuff.

As well as scoring, what I think is still the quickest ever hatrick in Scottish football history, Ian St. John did the voice over for the two Hibs share adverts in Autumn 1988.

Also remember Saint and Greavsie interviewing Gray and Duff on their programme at the time - just after the 3 v 1 Cetlc game that Archibald scored two in and Evans got the third - all by half-time.

As a youngster I would play two games in the morning and Saturday's were clearly mapped out.........wake up, test card on the telly, only three channels, breakfast whilst watching The Flashing Blade, first game for Penicuik YMCA, second game for the Cubs, home for Saint and Greavsie, watch World of Sport with Dickie Davies all afternoon.......then dinner watching Daisy Duke and Dukes of Hazzard

On a serious note, what a player St. John was and criminal how he didn't get more caps. It was however an era of tremendous Scottish talent in nearly all positions. Sad loss to football and entertainment, rest in peace Saint
