Hampden would require a 3 sided rebuild to be part of a World Cup. Probably easier just to do a complete demolish and start from scratch on what is a big site. Could build anything they liked on it. Celtic Park probably not up to standard either with an antiquated old main stand. Ibrox probably the only stadium that would be close to being acceptable.
We wouldn't get the final or semi finals so any of the current stadiums in Scotland are fine.

Especially with the Olympic stadium now fully transformed into a football stadium, Stamford bridge going to get an upgrade, the new Tottenham stadium, Anfield’s upgrade, and the new Everton stadium. They’ll be in a far better position by 2030 stadia wise than they’ve ever been previously.

Clubs opening new training centres all the time would also put them in a far better position.
Indeed. England is probably the most suited country in the world, along with Germany, to host it. France probably excellent as well as they've recently had Euros and WC.

There's no reason why England couldn't just host this on their own.

They already have about a dozen stadiums of 40k+, but being awarded the World Cup might even enable the rebuild or extension of additional stadiums.

Would probably be decent for our economy up here, from a selfish POV I’d always rather an ‘away’ tournament.

Wales would only have the Millenium stadium*, Cardiff city stadium would need capacity increased and Liberty stadium would need redone as its capacity would need doubled.

Scotland would have Murrayfield*, Hampden, Ibrox and Celtic park*.

Ireland would have Croke park* and the Aviva.

England obviously have far more - 11 in total with 5 of over 60k.

60k is the threshold for quarter finals onwards. * denotes those stadiums. Just don’t see why England wouldn’t go it alone other than political reasons as the UKGov have already fired money into it.
no more barrack room games at Croke

It seems incredible that the World Cup hasn’t returned England since 1966, given the footballing tradition etc. The five nation joint proposal seems ridiculous though. A joint Scottish -English bid may have been more sensible in terms of logistics.
quite easily manage a group based Edinburgh Newcastle and I suppose Glasgow

    Alternatively just bulldoze it?

Sounds brilliant. For the next European WC Italy or Spain/Portugal would be my choice but if that wasn't an option then a UK, Scotland and Ireland joint bid would be a pretty good alternative.

If current plans come to fruition then England would have the following 40,000+ by 2030

    Man Utd
    Man City
    Liverpool
    Everton (new build)
    Newcastle
    Sunderland
    Leeds (redevelopment)
    Sheffield Utd (expansion)
    Notts Forest (redevelopment)
    Leicester (expansion)
    Wolves (expansion)
    Aston Villa
    Arsenal
    Tottenham
    Chelsea (redevelopment)
    West Ham
    Wembley

So that's 17 in total. 4 in the north west and 4 in the north east/Yorkshire. 2 in West Mids and 2 in East Mids then 5 in London. Add in The Aviva in Dublin, the Millennium in Cardiff and a redeveloped Hampden and there you go, 20 top class venues.

Exactly. Drop the pitch, raise the gradient of the existing older sides and there will be enough room to extend the stands to pitchside taking capacity to 60,000+

I dont understand why they would mention Northern Ireland, I know it’s a joint effort but isn’t the biggest stadium in that country around 18,000?

After two failed solo bids in 2006 and again 2018 England needed to change tact and there is no nation more clever than England as what happens is that you over apply big then pick away bit by bit if you win.

5 "countries" and lets say 25 cities are in the bidding process and then one by one cities are whittled down as will the countries be removed as 5 European places being guaranteed just isn't going to happen as you lose the European voting block.

So Ireland gets merged with the North of Ireland, Wales/Scotland gets dropped and you end up with a few group games in Dublin and some in Glasgow/Cardiff plus throw in a last 16 and a Quarter final.

No harm in Scotland trying to get in on the action though I can see a lot of lobbying to see who doesn't get bumped.

Ireland are a very well respected genuine country with access to a wide diaspora market so should be able to make the country cut with Scotland and Wales fighting it out for the third place.

England are already talking about "football coming home" which rather makes a mockery of some 5 nations bid.

This is fundamentally if not totally England's World Cup and their government and FA will call every shot and very good luck to them as they are a fine football nation and their opponents will be Argentina/Uruguay on the 100th anniversary.

If Spain/Portugal bid as rumoured then its another twist to the political agenda.
