We wouldn't get the final or semi finals so any of the current stadiums in Scotland are fine. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

There's no reason why England couldn't just host this on their own.
They already have about a dozen stadiums of 40k+, but being awarded the World Cup might even enable the rebuild or extension of additional stadiums.Last edited by Keith_M; 02-03-2021 at 01:33 PM.

Sounds brilliant. For the next European WC Italy or Spain/Portugal would be my choice but if that wasn't an option then a UK, Scotland and Ireland joint bid would be a pretty good alternative.
PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. Probably robbed in other years

If current plans come to fruition then England would have the following 40,000+ by 2030
Man Utd
Man City
Liverpool
Everton (new build)
Newcastle
Sunderland
Leeds (redevelopment)
Sheffield Utd (expansion)
Notts Forest (redevelopment)
Leicester (expansion)
Wolves (expansion)
Aston Villa
Arsenal
Tottenham
Chelsea (redevelopment)
West Ham
Wembley
So that's 17 in total. 4 in the north west and 4 in the north east/Yorkshire. 2 in West Mids and 2 in East Mids then 5 in London. Add in The Aviva in Dublin, the Millennium in Cardiff and a redeveloped Hampden and there you go, 20 top class venues.

I dont understand why they would mention Northern Ireland, I know it’s a joint effort but isn’t the biggest stadium in that country around 18,000?

After two failed solo bids in 2006 and again 2018 England needed to change tact and there is no nation more clever than England as what happens is that you over apply big then pick away bit by bit if you win.
5 "countries" and lets say 25 cities are in the bidding process and then one by one cities are whittled down as will the countries be removed as 5 European places being guaranteed just isn't going to happen as you lose the European voting block.
So Ireland gets merged with the North of Ireland, Wales/Scotland gets dropped and you end up with a few group games in Dublin and some in Glasgow/Cardiff plus throw in a last 16 and a Quarter final.
No harm in Scotland trying to get in on the action though I can see a lot of lobbying to see who doesn't get bumped.
Ireland are a very well respected genuine country with access to a wide diaspora market so should be able to make the country cut with Scotland and Wales fighting it out for the third place.
England are already talking about "football coming home" which rather makes a mockery of some 5 nations bid.
This is fundamentally if not totally England's World Cup and their government and FA will call every shot and very good luck to them as they are a fine football nation and their opponents will be Argentina/Uruguay on the 100th anniversary.
If Spain/Portugal bid as rumoured then its another twist to the political agenda.Last edited by The Baldmans Comb; 03-03-2021 at 07:43 AM.
