Manchester City paid big money for Mann but he never really established himself making only 40 appearances in three years.

Yes ,Bobby was revered at Man City and also Oldham Athletic.
Some players from us over the years went down South and didn't set the heather on fire.
Bobby Johnstone certainly did !!
Edit
This below is an indication on the popularity of Bobby ,from an Oldham Athletic perspective

Jimmy O’Rourke told the story at St Pat’s 2014 that he was down at the old Maine Road Ground Manchester City with the other HIBS players and they were on a tour of the Stadium and they were shown a couple of trophies and busts of their great players Joe Mercer and Don Revie
Wee Jimmy collared the Commissionaire and said “ Excuse me but where is your best ever player?”
The Commissionaire twigged the accent and said “ Ah you’ll mean Nicker follow me.” They walked around the corner into a big grand entrance area with a huge marble staircase and there half way up the staircase was a huge portrait of Bobby Johnstone

I went to a match at Maine Road in April 1997 for a match against Bolton Wanderers. Bobby Johnstone was introduced to the crowd to mark his departure from Manchester as he was returning to retire to the Scottish Borders.
Incidentally Mixu scored the equaliser for Bolton after Kinkladze had the opened for City. Bolton went on to win 2-1 and were promoted to the Premier League. Top marks to the Bolton fans for that match. They sang continually "We only hate Man United".Last edited by jgl07; 03-03-2021 at 10:40 PM.
