This has been a cracking season by most possible metrics. A third place finish now looks a certainty unless we have a pretty huge collapse and Aberdeen have a huge turnaround (they’ve scored one, yes one goal in their last 10). Jack Ross deserves a humongous amount of credit if we do secure third. It would be huge for our club.

Hopefully galvanize the team before the first few games. This could be a huge defining moment for Hibs and the opportunity to attract players for an upcoming European campaign. Even if that campaign is in a new league format, being part of it wll benefit us financially.

It's out of their hands now - if they beat us, that's four points.

Eight points secures it for us. They need to score eight points more than us in the remaining five games, two of them against the Old Firm. If we go with the assumption that neither us or Aberdeen get a point against both those teams, that's then eight points over three games to catch up.

One win or two draws clinches it for us I reckon.

Livi have a better chance now of catching the dons now than them catching us when they are not scoring goals.

Someone with a track record of negative posts about Hibs ...Hmmmm....
Yeh. Maybe someone that knows what a jam bottle looks like. Who’d have thunk it, an expression like that being punted from our neighbours who were relegated last season and who have managed to lose the leagues on the last day three times in my lifetime. Not to mention the extraordinary time it’s been since they put their name on the leagues cup. Then of. course we’ve had both national cups in our trophy cabinet more recently. Hmmmmmm. Must be hurting.

We're not struttering anywhere. 4th in the form table over the last 10 games.

    OK, then...

We're currently rampaging into third place.

    That better?

I take it there’s not going to be any replays this year.

Is there a realistic chance of fans being back in grounds for Europe?

My gut feeling is we might be able to be back inside ER to some degree but travelling to numerous countries could be tricky due to local lockdown conditions.

Don’t think I’d be booking flights anytime soon.

I'd say there's almost zero chance of away fans being allowed and travel itself to many European countries may not even be allowed either.

I'm hopeful that some fans may be able to attend the home games.

I know what you mean but realistically we won't be able to book any flights till August time and by then we will have a pretty good idea whether or not we will be allowed to travel.

even i'm slightly confident we will at least beat Livingston this time around, which would leave Aberdeen needing x3 wins and x2 draws or x4 wins, along with us losing our other four games

    have i got that right

It was the late and great Ayrton Senna who said that 'being second is to be the first of the ones who lose'.

Being happy with 3rd is not where I imagined our great club would be in 2021 when I got on board the good ship Hibernian as a young man.

I want some day, some day, that we can crush those corrupt pigs in Glasgow and show them what we are capable of.
I would advise you not to hold your breath.

In the last twenty years I can recall Hibs finishing ahead of Celtic once in 1994-95. Hibs had two points more in 4th place than Celtic in 5th. Celtic still beat Hibs on the Cup Semi-final after a replay.

Over the same time periof you exclude the two years when Rangers were in a Divsion or two below, Hibs have finished ahead of them once, in the Scottish Championship in 2014-15. Hibs finished second 3 points ahead of Rangers in 3rd. Rangers still managed to beat Hibs in the Promotion Play-off without managing to go up.

If we only win 1 and lose the other 4 then there's a chance that 3 wins and a draw would be enough for Aberdeen to finish 3rd on goal difference.

    It's not happening though.

If we lose them all, 2 wins and 2 draws would be enough for Aberdeen.

Don’t think so. If we won 1, and Aberdeen lost 1 (3 wins and a draw leaves 1 defeat) then we would be at least 14 goals clear before the other games. That would then be an average of a 2 goal swing from every other game on average.

but that would make them equal on points with us if we win one, and if we win that one game it means our GD would be at the very least +13, we will all agree it's highly unlikely they will claw back 13 goals

    i think

We’ll almost certainly end up playing Rangers at home again and Celtic away so that everyone ends up with a 19/19 split. Not sure whether or not that’s a good thing as I’d have been pretty confident in us getting some form of result at home to Celtic
