    Boyle as a striker

Yeah, hopefully the end of that disaster. He genuinely couldn't even play there in the championship never mind semi finals. I've been slaughted on here before for saying it (with the one example at Tynecastle being mentioned always) but seriously. Its clear as day. He is a dreadful striker. Ross has to see that.

He is a (very) one dimensional right winger. Nothing more.

We question his position every so often. Striker, winger or wing back.

Hes played all of them this season and has been very poor/quiet most games.

5 goals 8 assists this season isn't bad at all. He is a decent player. Just not up top.

Totally agree, best right winger, stop ****ing about with that. If we’re two up top then it’s Nisbet and Doidge.

We played better when he was up top and not on the wing. Our starting team formation was correct. Poor finishing and a porteous error spoiled a very good first half performance

We change shape when bringing on Doidge who was very poor and went back to long balls

His pace was his main assets, he seems to have lost that so is now just a very limited footballer I’m afraid with zero composure in the final 3rd.

The formation was correct. Boyle still offered nothing, though. Doidge starts, cadden out, Boyle wide right and we're a better side. Doidge should've been first name on teamsheet for defending dead balls if nothing else.

Is that what he was supposed to be?

It's even more worrying to think he now has 2 inferior players in competition for the right midfield slot. Boyle has to play there, even in a 3-5-2. It makes no sense whatsoever.

    Boyle sums Hibs up.

Unpredictable, inconsistent, liable to go missing in big games.

Not the kind of player to put a lot of faith in.

He is good sometimes which is the reason why he is at Hibs.

Doidge for Cadden and Hallberg for Gogic would have given us more threat up front, more capability to defend set pieces and the ability to take a decent set piece. Boyles set pieces were poor but that wasn't a surprise. Just not his thing.

i remember saying to a mate at a game a few seasons back exactly that, when he loses his pace well, i'm not sure what else he will bring, i'm sure he will score again though

Don’t completely disagree with you but we can’t play Doidge because he’s good at defending set pieces. He’s been poor for the last 2 months as a striker

He’s not really. He scored a few in December. Might have gone through a spell not scoring but we generally play better with him in the team. Nothing wrong with his overall play.

I think we’d have had a better few weeks if we hadn’t dropped him. We rarely play well with the 1 or the 3 up front.

We get overrun in midfield when he plays, especially 4-4-2. To be honest Andy I’m so fed up tonight I’ve now no idea what’s for the best!

Boyle has been Scottish Championship material most weeks this entire season.

Rarely beats a man, crosses inevitably hit the first man, can barely lift a set-piece a foot off the ground.

Another one who isn't half as good as he thinks he is.

We’ve done well with 442 a lot this season but it does depend who you play in there.

352 gives you the 2 up and allows a 3 in the middle but then you have to be looking at not playing other players like Murphy or Boyle.

Main issue is we are trying all these things and sometimes in the same game.

Boyle is our one of our best players when used wide of a front 3. He’s an average centre forward, average wingback and barely meets the standard of a professional footballer on the left.

The poor bassa is played in different position every week and people are wondering why his form has dropped off*♂️

No matter where he plays hes been poor pretty much since he signed that new deal...2 dreadful performances at Hampden when we needed him most. Is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is...starting to wish we had sold him when we had the chance tbh

Here’s a question for all the Boyle slagging brigade. How would you like to turn up for your work and be physically assaulted by being kicked up and down the place and the authorities doing nothing or little about it.Don’t think you’d put up with it for long.At present the opposition identify Boyle as Hibs main danger and deal with it accordingly.Until we have players who can take the pressure of Boyle and put it on the opposition, not much is going to change.

If it’s generally accepted that Boyle is better on the wing than up front surely he should be able to cross a ball, which is basically what a ‘set piece’ is?

Boyles main strength is hitting the bye line and cutting it back, or his wicked low and hard whipped ball between defence and keeper. Free kicks and corners are entirely different. Strange but not many players in world football are comfortable taking set pieces, hence why it’s quite specialist. We really missed Mallan, Hallberg or Newell’s delivery today.

He’s a good player and has been decent this season. I can’t understand why Ross put him through the middle in such a big game. Boyle makes McGinn a better player when he plays in front of him.

Boyle has been poor for longer that that.

Boyle being high on the right makes Paul McGinn a much better attacker as he has room to move into. Playing Cadden was a risk tonight and didn't work. We had next to no attacking threat down the right.

He should be capable of doing both, his contribution tonight was very poor.

Not sure about your last comment as he`s never seemed to show any arrogance and think he has a good attitude . In fact he`s always seemed to me to be a player that has done well with us because he`s made a great effort to make the most of his strengths ( his pace principally ) and worked on his weaknesses ( his finishing for example ) . But , like several others , his best performances were in matches when whole team was playing well in that magic spell in 2018 . In earlier seasons he wa playing in a lower division just as he was when we signed him .

John Collins on the radio was harping on about that when the score was still 0-0. Said he couldn't understand why both Boyle and Murphy were not playing wide given the way Saints were set up.

He was talking before the semi against hearts about playing at a higher level than us which wasn’t long after signing his contract.
