Thread: No Defence

    No Defence

Desperately exposed again. Badly lacking a commanding centre half, should be focusing on defensive re-enforcements instead of all the midfield/forwards we’ve been linked with or signed. Absolutely bullied at those set pieces.

    No case for the defence

Soft centre no commanding centre back with height to bully a player at hibs !!
Centre back needs urgent repair !,.

soft as shi**e Hibs once more ,can’t defend simple crosses or set plays

Hanlon and Porto know they will play every week as there is no one to put pressure on them. Hard to find a commanding centre half for the money we have.

Said it for years!!! Can’t talk bad about hanlon, he’s a great servant. He’s at the heart of a defence that crumbles

It may be worth taking the Captain armband from Hamlin and letting him concentrate on his
own game rather than everyone’s. Not sure who we give it too though as we don’t seem to have any leaders on the pitch.

Don’t disagree, but how many goals have we scored?? Problems throughout this team!

Piss poor mental attitude has been inherent in the club for decades, we have our moments but in general we are perpetual underachievers due to the lack of belief and desire that exists within the club. Every other team, from every level, are capable of upping their game in "big games", Hibs seldom do and rarely ever turn up.

Playing squads and management teams come and go yet the soft, timid displays still persist in derbies as well as cup semis / finals and pretty much every time they need to stand up and be counted.

We're far too concerned about upsetting other people rather than looking after ourselves!

    Always soft touches.

Hanlon can’t win the header for Porto at the first, he can’t follow McGinn’s runner for the second, or the third for that matter.

Hanlon is a big weak link in that defence has been obvious for some time too soft

We need more options in defence. Hanlon and Porteous know they can play awful every week but will still start every game. We have nobody better in our squad that can replace them. That itself is poor management and recruitment. You need pressure on players to perform every week.

It’s zonal marking at the 2nd and Rooney beats Hanlon in the air.

Unbelievable how many people on here constantly defend Hanlon.

A player who has been at the heart of a soft “boy band” hibs side for years.

He’s simply not good enough if we want to improve

It wasn’t zonal at all, Hanlon had his man, then made a last ditch attempt to win the header with the boy in front (can see it from the angle up the pitch), McGinn just stands at the edge of the box. Our three big were up against their three big, except their biggest never got touched by McGinn who slept.

I think one of those two would be fine playing alongside a big commanding centre half. Should be a priority now.

    It’s zonal. Watch it again.

Not for me Porteous caught under ball for both first and second goals

He looked like Bambi on ice for the whole game

Not sure if he was hampered by that early injury or not

When the header happens, how many players does Hanlon have? 2. Where is McGinn? Edge of the box.

He doesn’t have any players as it’s zonal marking.

Agree. Porteous has potential, Hanlon should know better, but is not marshalling the defence and is ineffective coming forward. Look at the St. Johnstone defence, when we attacked they closed us down and dealt with the majority of crosses. They attack and we are standing off , are unable to tackle and look a disorganised mess. Jason Kerr would be a better option.

Ross is heading the same way as most of the other recent managers loosing his job for not sorting out the soft as s###e defence.
How hard is it to get a couple of big no nonsense centre half's , nearly every other team can manage it .
Would have the St Johnstone centre half's before our 2 even there right back was a big powerful player.

How is it the likes of Livi can unearth a couple of giants every year for peanuts ? Our recent managers have not got a clue how to buy defenders, Big mobile defenders are ten a penny in the lower leagues of England, all they have to do is win a header which seems to be beyond Hanlon and Porto. Hanlon has been at ER to long and seems to be the first name on the team sheet every week-anyone remember him being dropped ? Keep players to long and they will get you the sack and it might be the case for our present one.

He had limitations but with hindsight letting Jackson go without signing a replacement looks a mistake, especially as Ross has decided Daz is only picked as a last resort.

I’m intrigued at the zone that McGinn is marking then. First time I’ve seen a centre half defend a zone outside the box when the rest of the back line have dropped back into the box. Suppose he was defending the zone and not the man for the third goal as well.

We’re talking about the 2nd goal and I dont know why you keep mentioning McGinn ? The ball is played into the box, it’s Hanlons zone. He doesn’t defend it. It’s simple really

Because McGinn is standing on the edge of the box, fairly simple. At the free kick we have a back line, the three big boys pick up their three big boys, two of our big boys drop, three of their big boys go into the area, the one big boy that’s not picked up scores the header. You can bleat on about zones all you want, we set up to mark the three men, McGinn failed to do so.

Jackson wanted to go and only makes the bench for Lincoln.

Hanlon is not strong enough Porteous is not solid enough. Porteous doesn’t learn anything from Hanlon. If Ross doesn’t bring a centre half in and change captain ASAP then he will be out of a job.

Every other team in the SPL seems able to find them.
