Thank *** we got rid of Hecky when we did, he was an absolute shocker of an appointment.

He may well have even relegated us

Maxwell is one of the worst keepers i’ve seen at hibs in recent years.

Have you been watching Hibs for around two or three years by chance?

i said in recent years, not the entirety of the time i’ve supported Hibs.

I genuinely did not rate him one bit, could not understand at all how he was a regular starter at one point.

Hecky had a love in for him for some reason. Some managers/coaches seem to take a shining to certain keepers they have brought in.

Didn't think he was anything better or worse than alright. As average as they come. Seen far worse.

Newell, if fit, in for Gogic. If not, I'd play Mallan.

Marciano must start it fit, however if it went to penalty’s I’d have most keepers apart for Marciano for penalties :)

So he's not great at saving penalties, doesn't really command his box, has regular, poor distribution and his concentration can be iffy. I'd suggest most people couldn't really argue with that. That leaves a few brilliant stops a season.
    Is that it?

I'd go a 442 diamond with attacking wingbacks.

    Rocky

    McGinn
    Porteous
    Hanlon
    Doig

    Gogic

    Irvine
    Newell

    Murphy

    Boyd
    Nisbet

I think this will be the team, although i'd swap Boyd for Boyle.

Would quite like to see Boyd/Boyle given a free rein to "drop hand grenades all over the place" a la Keegan under Shanks.

It made no sense to me how he was getting a game, the goals that he conceded were so poor at times. Seemed a nice guy but i was glad to see him leave.

Maxwell was a decent keeper.... made a few errors in his time but also had some great games. Very good with the ball at his feet, distribution much better than Rocky.

His distribution was better than rocky's but i think saying he played some great games is being very generous, average at best IMO

If Rocky and Newell are fit, then they both go straight back in. Magennis for the bench if he's deemed okay.
It might be a risk to start a rusty Irvine again, although he will have a few more training sessions under his belt.
Irvine is a better bet for getting forward if we go with Nisbet on his own up top though, so it could be that Hallberg drops out for Newell, which gives us more balance with a lefty in there, but is harsh on the Swede, who was good on Saturday and had way more influence on the game than Irvine.
Nisbet is probably better with Doidge up beside him but that makes it harder to get Boyle and Murphy in, without leaving us exposed in central midfield, and those two are pretty much guaranteed starts.

Saints chop and change two or three most weeks but it's usually a 3-5-2. They were good against Dundee United (for a draw) and pretty rubbish against St Mirren (when they won).
Both games against them this season have been even contests and we didn't play well in either.
Need to step it up this time.

Agree with this, decent distribution but his shot stopping was very poor IMO. Never had any confidence with him in goals.

Yes he did, made some great saves during the game and saved 3 out of 5 in the penalty shoot out against WBA.

My only criticism of him is he's a bit small, decent shot stopper and very good distribution but lacks physicality when it comes to crosses.

Just watched the highlights but they don’t do enough justice for him, only showed 1 of the penalty saves

Maybe i’m being harsh, but i just didn’t see anything in him at his time with Hibs to suggest he was good enough for us. Like i said previously though he came across as a good guy so pleased for him.

  24. #83
In fairness to Marciano he's made less mistakes this season than he normally does. He's lost his place in the side in previous seasons due to poor form. This season it's down to injury.

He was not good enough to be No.1 but was certainly good enough to be a backup and the fact he's playing for Blackpool in League 1 backs that up. He wasn't a poor keeper but in the same breath he was great just somewhere in between.

A full week of training for the new guys will definitely help with settling in etc. Really think both semis could go either way. Forecast for Glasgow on Saturday doesn't look too bad. Not like last time!

Agreed. A goalkeeper that didn't make saves.

Gets praised for his distribution because he could punt a ball into the channels even though he slowed absolutely everything down. The 2-1 home defeat to Hearts was infuriating.

True but I've been critical of Marciano for slowing the play down too. I was literally screaming at the tele during the semi against Hearts as his distribution was so slow. Was just playing into Hearts hands.

Think the Hibs press conference is today, so should get an update on the likes of Rocky etc

It’s something most people criticise Rocky for though, yet praised Maxwell for it.
