David Tanner, Chewing the Fat's Big Man and Tam McManus

Being able to watch the games on Hibs TV has been a real bonus in these unprecedented times, but I have to turn on a 2.59, can't stand watching or listening to Tanner.

The Big Man in Chewing the Fat, when he's on a TV show taking calls from viewers, perfectly calls out Tanner and his ilk. When the Presenter asks the Big Man if he had a good holiday, he's knocked back with "I'll burst you ya cheese merchant"

Come on Tam, you know you want to.

Honestly don’t know how the man got a gig presenting live tv. Seem to be lots of awkward moments aswell during the show. His patter is brutal.

Joe Newall is one of today’s guests in the studio. Be worth tuning in early to hear his chat. By all accounts a personable character.

On the odd ocassion that he's been interviewed, he seems to have quite a sense of humour but without coming across as a clown.

did you ever see Derek Johnstone and Jim Craig - now THAT was truly cringe-worthy tv. Crap patter and awfully scripted jokes with fake laughter painful.

I’m surprised it’s taken this long for Tanner to be discussed on here. I think you’ve hit the nail on the head in saying that being able to watch the games has been a blessing. An ounce, literally any ounce of normality throughout deeply challenging times.

Been impressed with Tam McManus as co-commentator but then again I also like Ally McCoist

Would rather we replaced Tanner with Grant Stott

Working for the BBC just now might mean that Stott would cost too much?

Taken so long? There is a thread usually after each home game about Tanner!

I've mentioned before that I don't enjoy Tanner as a presenter, though I'll draw the line at flinging insults his way (not that anyone has on here, but I've definitely seen it on social media).

As others have said, it's the forced patter I've not got much patience for. It just makes things feel cringey and insincere. He doesn't seem to have a natural rapport with the guests and it comes across like he thinks he needs to force Hibs references into situations where they aren't really necessary, in order to be accepted.

On the flip side, the overall production has been really enjoyable. The guests more than make up for Tanner's limitations in my view, and thankfully we've had a number of really engaging, entertaining ex-Hibs staff that have brought a lot of value to the show. When we don't have special guests, I tend to tune in just before KO, however I'm once again looking forward to watching the whole show, with Joe Newell in the studio.

Cliff and Dave both do a fine job in commentary too. Glad that the audio issue has been addressed.

Which one was it that recently spent the first 45 minutes of a match referring to Dundee United as 'Dundee'?

It was the other commentator - Dave.

And it was painful to hear repeatedly.

Imagine any commentator saying " United take the goal kick and its come off a Hibs player and gone out for thrown in for Dundee just near the half way line".

No knowledge of Scottish football or self awareness whatsoever and very grating for 90 minutes.

Tam McManus needs to stop groaning every time a Hibs player makes a mistake. It sounds like he's trying to dub a foreign porno (I imagine. I haven't seen any).

I was more against David Tanner hosting at the beginning than I am now.

He is what he is, and however hard he tries he’ll just never be ‘Hibs’ in the sense we are, but I’ve got used to his style. It wouldn’t matter who you put in the anchors chair - it will never better the experience of going to watch Hibs. Hopefully we won’t have to rely on streaming beyond this season, and maybe we’ll look back at this time and be thankful for what we got from Hibs.

I think Hibs have got it pretty close to spot on with the coverage of games.

Cliff and Tam are a good team. Cliff gets a bit of stick from some quarters but he's one of the most neutral in house commentators I have heard and seems to have a decent grasp of the opposition. Tam is decent as far as Co commentators go. The sighing is a bit annoying but it implies he cares almost as much as we do. I don't mind Dave either even if some feel he commited a mortal sin by confusing Dundee and Dundee Utd.

The range of studio guests have been good. Yogi, JC, Garry O'connor, Alex Miller, Joelle Murray etc have all contributed something.

Tanner is the weak link. His delivery is stilted and his banter is forced. When talking about guests his handling of the obviously delicate Scott Allan situation was poor and created a bit of discomfort. It's all a bit Partridge.

On the whole I don't have too many complaints with what Hibs have served up. I hope I never have to watch football like this again but for now it just about does the job.

I like Cliff and Tam and the assorted guests who have on occasions been interesting to catch up with, particularly Alex Miller. Its just the Cheese Merchant. Not in anyway advocating a campaign of abuse towards Mr Tanner, I vote with my feet as is my right, though I would love for Tam to somehow work in the term "Cheese Merchant" into his chat with him. Anyone who knows Tam, have a word

That is my view too. I don't mind Cliff at all. He has warmth and speaks pretty well. I want a pro Hibs commentator but not some of the frothing at the mouth types on other teams TV channels. Tam is fine too. The guests have been really good but Tanner fails to make the most of them. His interviewing of Scott Allan was truly atrocious and his patter and lack of Hibs knowledge doesn't help him.

Get a more natural studio lead and it would be a good programme. Losing some of the adverts would be good too but if they are bringing in the cash I can live with that. I'd be happier to have features on some of the advertisers particularly the local ones or ones where they are sponsoring because of a Hibs connection.

I only ever switch the game on when the pre-match discussions are over and they're ready to kick-off, so I don't have much of a problem with that part of things.

I also switch the sound off at half-time and go for my coffee and pie.

Tanner reminds me of Micheal Scott from the office, trying to whip out a couple of bits of patter and it never landing.

It's yet another example of everything being black or white with nothing in between.

I can't be bothered with him either, but he certainly doesn't put me off watching. If I have time (and I remember) I'll watch the pre-match programme, if I miss it I'm not too bothered.

I'm about the same. David Tanner is simply being what he understands as "professional". He can deal with camera or sound cockups, he sounds enthusiastic about advertisers' products he needs to sell to bring in the cash, he looks clean, and doesn't swear (remember his panic when a guest (was it Yogi) swore.

On the other hand, what are people expecting from a presenter on Hibs TV? Mainstream professionalism? DT is your man.

Personally I'd like to see less smarm and more of the fans' language, sweary or otherwise. Much easier for commentators to refer to the Arabs than mix up Dundee and well, the Arabs.

That would be a bit odd when there are no Arabs in the stadium. The Arabs are Utd Fans rather than the teams and the Team is the Terrors as far as I am aware

That’s how I feel about him. I like the pre match show and although Tanner wouldn’t have been my choice to host it, he’s not so bad that I can’t watch.
