Unfortunately in 99 Man United beat Palmeiras in the world club cup / Super cup after they won Copa Libertadores and Champs League respectively.
I think theres been a few in the World Club championship, I remember Flamengo beating Liverpool probably in the 80s and not too long ago Chelsea played Corinthians (cant actually remember who won that)

Come on Santos- father's family home town team.
I was there last year and visited their stadium and saw a game. Really good football. The stadium has aged but the museum is amazing! Now my Brazilian team

1-0 Santos against their big city rivals although the big games are against the other two Sao Paulo teams - - Corinthians and Palmerais. Santos may be disqualified from the South American championship for fielding at least one player who was Covid 19 positive.

A little bit more on the Vasco game. It finished 3-3 in the Maracana our goals were scored by Archie Buchanan and a Lawrie Reilly double, the second of which was a last minute equaliser.
In April 1956 we played them again wining 3-1 at Easter Road. Was quite a sequence of home matches that month in April 1956, we played our European Cup semi final against Rheims, then played Champions elect Rangers (drew 2-2 in front of 30,000) then played Vasco. We finished the season 4th on goal difference behind Hearts and just a point behind Aberdeen in second spot. Rangers won the title by 6 points. Celtic finished 5th four point behind us and Hearts.
This was the early days of floodlight matches and that same season Hibs played in prestigious friendlies at Easter Road under the lights beating Newcastle twice,Preston NE, Manchester City and hammering Manchester United 5-0. Heady days eh.

Santos did nothing wrong and won't be punished. The 2 guys who tested positive, tested positive, AFTER the game with Boca.

Palmeiras x River Plate in 4 hours for a place in the final of Libertadores, with Palmeiras 0-3 up from the first leg.

    They're partying in Perdizes already.

    Santos x Boca tomorrow.

I moved out of São Paulo City to Litoral Norte during the lockdown, so I'm still in São Paulo state but in a less densely populated area. Safer.

I know a ton of people who have lost people to it, including 1 friend who lost both parents - both quite old.

They're gonna start vaccinating on January 25th.

Hope the uncle will be fine - most people pull through, remember.

I've got some insane videos of fans outside Allianz Parque partying and a big procession of thousands walking through the dark, night streets with exploding green flares and fireworks. They're not even in the final, YET!! If you wanna see I could share them.

Wow - Liitoral Norte is beautiful - yes I’d be interested PM away!
Yes my mates in London caught it - in early 30s and 40s but both were hospitalised one with clots on lungs and diabetes it’s a bit of Russian roulette for some people - they are hugely fit guys one a PT instructor - who coincidentally for this moment caught it on a trip to ... Dubai...

It was interesting seeing the stadium decked in the banners, especially having been there.

Brazilian football reminds of old Scottish football - fast with lots of flying tackles but just a bit more skill. Certainly beats the sterile slow football we see in Europe now.

The Argentinos certainly know how to put the boot in.

The last few minutes of the game were brutal. Retribution was being handed out by both sides. The ref stop blowing for fouls for about 10 minutes

The final will be Palmeiras x Santos on January 30th in the Maracanã. 5pm local time (8pm in the UK).

2 big clubs from São Paulo in Rio for a Libertadores Final during a pandemic. Hoo Mama !!

Wouldn't wanna be policing that. Still, at least it's not Palmeiras x Corinthians, I suppose, the police will be telling themselves.

    Vai Palmeiras !!

I'm looking to somehow acquire a copy of the official programme for Hibs 1953 trip to Brazil. I found this page which shows what it looks like https://www.sportsmemories.be/Book.aspx?id=19601

Would greatly appreciate if you have any ideas on where I could find a copy or if you know anyone who might have one for sale. Thanks!
Nothing to do with the programme but for anyone interested there’s an article in this quarter’s Nutmeg Magazine on this trip to Brazil.

Great stuff. I’ve been picking Nutmeg up at my local bookshop in Porty but it’s shut. This is a nice reminder, thanks.
