What's with the 7pm kick off times?

Why wait until 7.45pm when you don’t need too
Wonder if we’ll get any fans in for this one

It's a nice thought but Edinburgh's not going into level 1 restrictions anytime soon.

In a way you are right, in which case I see nothing wrong with a 3pm kick off.

    It's a Tuesday.

Lots of people that would otherwise watch it on live streams still have to work weekdays.

I know it is a midweek game, but as long as most people can remember, midweek games kicks off at 7:45. I didn't think the UEFA thing still applies, some of the games tonight kicks off at 5.

It’s been relaxed. 7pm includes one half of the earlier game at 1755 and one half of the later one 8pm. It doesn’t cover any full game in the champions league.

Still don't understand why the time is changed though.

So that it can be broadcast live in the UK on a club channel.

Even though it overlaps with some games in a corner of Europe?!

Nothing to do with Champions League. That rule went years ago. No one took any notice of it anyway.

There was a full programme of English Championship, League One and League Two on Tuesday and Wednesday, this week and last week.

Aberdeen played St Johnstone last week on the Tuesday.

The early kick off is purely because no one can watch in person anyway so why do the players have to travel back in the small hours?

In any event there are Champions League matches starting at 17:55 and at 20:00 so a 19:00 kick off is going to clash with all eight CL matches with a 19:00 start.

Hibs and hearts both at home in their leagues on the same day at the same time doesn't happen often.

Hearts v Alloa now that should take precedent over the Champions League

Aberdeen played Hamilton a week past Wednesday, they also kicked off at 7pm. The champions league rule never went anywhere. If a game is televised it still needs to finish 15 minutes before the champions league games begin. Otherwise they need to apply for an exemption. I’d imagine this is the compromise that Scotland had to come up with.

    Can't ever recall it happening.

Can remember it in Scottish Cup ties but never league fixtures.

Hibs specifically mentioned the Champions league issue.

Champions league issue definitely impacted our Scottish Cup home replays against Hearts in 2016 and 2017 causing a “TV blackout”.

It’s been explained already in this thread...

The rules have been relaxed to allow a 7pm ko as it only takes in one half of each CL slot. Aberdeen v Hamilton the other week also kicked off at 7 for this reason and lower league games/cup competitions aren’t covered by the rules so that explains your point about the Championship etc in England

The rule still exists. The reason England gets around it every week is that they are rich enough to pay the fine that UEFA issues, which is why since sky lost the UCL, they always show championship games at the same time

    This!!!

All the talk about UEFA is a smokescreen IMHO

As is the suggestion that the players will get home 45 minutes early. Our game on 6th November is 7:45, why not 7 so the team can get home earlier?
