    Ex-Players Positions.

Greetings, Could you help me confirm the playing positions of the following former players?

    Alan Sneddon - Right Back.
    Gordon Hunter - Central Defender.
    Gordon Rae* - Central Defender.
Joe Tortolano* - Left Back and Left Midfielder.

    *sometimes he played center forward.
*came from the junior category as a winger.

Sneddon played both right and left back.

Rae started as a striker. Was slower than....etc etc.... so was moved back (initially midfield IIRC) and ended up at CH.

Joe I think started out as a left winger and dropped back over time.

Hunter played right back when he first broke through before going to his favoured role.

Rae did carry a bit of extra timber.

Arthur Duncan wac another winger who became a full back.

Scott brown started as a striker !

Didn't Willie Jamieson also start as a striker before dropping back? Or is my memory all gone to hell?

Is my memory failing me or did Geebsie play in midfield in the play-off 1st leg v Airdire at ER? Got sent off anyway and it was his last game for Hibs.

Bobby Smith was another who started up the park, and ended up at left-back.

Did Lexo not convert Darren Jackson from a striker to a midfielder?

I'm pretty sure Joe was signed as a left winger from West Brom.

He did, got a break in the team when Joe McBride was injured. Interesting or not it was John Blackley that first played Tortolano at left back - he played there the day Souness made his debut.

100% correct. He was chasing shadows.

Dirk Lehman played a game toward end of his time at full back (can't remember which) and did not too bad at all.

The popular myth is that he converted everyone to defenders 😁

He did, and he’s still not happy about it.

He was a great player for Hibs always gave a 100% loved it when he broke in to the team at RB charging down the wing overlapping all elbows and arms.

He’s also played centre back a fair bit towards the end.

The thing about Geebsie he wasn’t the greatest of players but he always gave 100% and was fully committed

He was very quick over 20 yards and he could tackle

His speed of recovery was awesome and if he tackled you you knew you had been tackled

One of the many stories I recall about Hunter was that he forgot to put his clock back the night before we won the skol cup, and he turned up at Easter Road to get on the bus to Hampden...no one was there. He thought he was late and they had left without him - but because of the clocks changing he was an hour early !

    Ha Ha!

He had a strange way of tackling always looked as though he was flying in with his studs showing but I don’t recall him ever being pulled up for it always left the forward lying in a heap 😃

    Changed days different era

A bit of a cheap shot that. Sneddon got some stick from the fans but was a decent player and great servant to the club.
