Difficult to pick a team as you’d probably need to pick lesser players to maintain a balance to the team, but as it’s hypothetical haven’t worried about how narrow the midfield is.

There are some great teams being posted. But who would you put in as the best number 12 (the first substitute to be on to help things along). Mine would Ivan Sproule. He always seemed to be more effective coming off the bench.

Liam Henderson has been known to make an impact off the bench.

What are you bringing him on for - he's *****ing useless.

Apparently O'Connors reaction to being subbed before Sproule scored his hat trick at Ibrox.

I know it's probably not true, but it is a great story that I've heard a few times.

Not heard that story, but if true, what a great way to shut someone up.

It has been downhill ever since

I wonder if I would have felt the same about that team if I had been a bit older but as young boy just becoming obsessed with football I have never seen anything like it before or afterwards.

I could argue I have seen better goalies than Herriot and better centre half's than Black, but sometimes a team is better than the sum of its parts and who is to say replacing them wouldn't have disrupted that

For me any of the others would hold their place against what I have seen subsequently in their positions

Next closest would be Murphy v Schaedler, but Erich was a big hero of mine as he was hard as nails

McGinn would be the most unlucky to miss out, he is as close to an idol as I have had in a Hibs player since Paddy Stanton

    I loved everything about McGinn.

It was like watching a game of chess - they kept the ball on the carpet - every man knew his job -Herriot would always roll the ball out - if a move broke down they would simply start again - they had a system and stuck to it

At times going down that slope we were unbeatable-watching them was a pleasure- they truly made it the beautiful game- we thought it would always be like this

    Agree about McGinn

He could sit on the bench beside Des Bremner

I would have Sauzee sweeping behind Hunter and Hanlon with Whittaker and Stevenson playing wing-back roles. I had to include Stevenson after winning two Cup Finals.

I would put Latapy and O'Neill in midfield with John McGinn. Riordan and Darren Jackson up front look a good combination.

Yes Turnbull's Tornadoes from the start of the season through to the infamous East Fife game, what a joy to watch they were, total football, days never to be seen again in my life anyways.
We had many great players in the team from 1966/1970 as well, but the Tornadoes really were something else.

If we are talking about players in their prime and for each available position mine are as follows:

    4-3-3

    Leighton

    Murphy
    Jones
    Sauzee
    De La Cruz

    McGinn
    Brown
    Latapy

I struggle for RIght back, it’s not a position we’ve been blessed with since Brownlie, who if I’m honest I can’t remember watching in the flesh. So David Gray gets it for 2016. Whittaker had weaknesses and was nowhere near Murphy class on the opposite side IMO.

That's some pace you've got at left wing back...
