Not a perfectly balanced side but I think they'd manage to find a way.

Drop Whitty, put John Brownlie at right back and bring in David Murphy at left back and that would be pretty close to mine. I'm not sure that Blackley and Sauzee would work as a centre back partnership but who cares!

    Good thread FH
I started going to ER in the mid seventies and have very vague memories of some of the tornadoes and going for a 3 5 2

    Goram
    Hunter Sauzee Jones
    Duncan Latapy Stanton Mcginn Murphy
    Griffiths Archibald

That was tough and I could probably make three or four changes on another day

Not sure about Murphy as a LWB. FS as a sweeper and to keep Efe from doing Efe things. Gone more with my favourite over the years than a good team.

    Talking

We've actually had quite a lot of good players when you think about it. I started watching Hibs regularly around 1992 and in that time I'd say we've had 4 cracking teams - Miller's team where he lost the plot and started playing great stuff around 93-94, McLeish's team 2nd year after we got back up, the "golden generation" and then the cup winning team (and the year or two after). There was always the odd star outwith these teams too.

    Leighton

    Hunter
    Sauzee
    Jones

    Whittaker
    Jack
    McGinn
    Latapy
    Murphy

    Jackson
    O'Connor

Absolutely mad the players you have to leave out to pick that.

And to think that I think of us as having been quite crap most of the time.

Not even sure of that myself. Killen probably shouldn't be near the team but for those 6 months he was unbelievable.

It has been downhill ever since

I wonder if I would have felt the same about that team if I had been a bit older but as young boy just becoming obsessed with football I have never seen anything like it before or afterwards.

I could argue I have seen better goalies than Herriot and better centre half's than Black, but sometimes a team is better than the sum of its parts and who is to say replacing them wouldn't have disrupted that

For me any of the others would hold their place against what I have seen subsequently in their positions

Next closest would be Murphy v Schaedler, but Erich was a big hero of mine as he was hard as nails

McGinn would be the most unlucky to miss out, he is as close to an idol as I have had in a Hibs player since Paddy Stanton

    I loved everything about McGinn.

Yes we've had some wonderful players. I put Govan in because when I was a kid this giant use to thunder up and down the right hand side and was certainly one of the first overlapping full backs- Alf Ramsay was another one whereas George Young never went over the half way (although I did see him clear a ball at Easter Road with such power that Younger decided to tip it over the bar.
