Sky are under no obligation to offer a fair and balanced view of the match. They’re a commercial station and will pander to their perceived biggest audience. No team outside the uglies will get a fair hearing on Sky and ironically enough both of them will see the coverage as biased against them too.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Sky Sports review of Boyle’s offside position was poor. From all the replays showed it was so clear to me that the reason the assistant ref struggled to spot it was that Boyle was moving back into an onside position a fraction of a second after the ball was played. It was so quick and his arced run meant that 3 or so defenders were goalside in the blink of an eye.

It was frustrating that no one offered that explanation on the Sky coverage. They did acknowledge it was difficult but the direction of movement from Boyle seemed obvious at the time. BBC picked up on it with Michael Stewart’s analysis on Sportscene as you say.
Michael Stewart defended the linesman’s misjudged call during the rerun on Sportscene by highlighting the angle of run and fraction of a second he was offside. No conspiracy’s or vilifying of officials - just a tight call that was probably not visible to the naked eye in real time. It’s often argued that the benefit of the doubt should be with attacking player so don’t really see it being of any big deal.

    Spot on.

Understand that Sky need to focus on / pander to their largest market .... but is it really old fashioned to hope that a wee smidge of journalistic integrity might make them at least try?
