I trust Jack Ross addition of a player he knows well. A good experienced pro is a welcome addition to the squad for me.

Clearly there are some on here that can’t wait to write their first after match “waste of money” posts about him, but for me he is a good experienced addition that will help on and off the field.

That won't be happening by me at all. As I've said, probably 10 times now, it is possible and reasonable to have reservations about a signing and still give them full support. I hope he does brilliantly and I get hit with the usual witty replies on here.

Seems a solid enough signing. Guy's got a strong CV. It's a welcome from me.

That's good you'll give him full support. You quite often find people are determined to be right about a player they've written off without kicking a ball in a Hibs top....

For me he's always looked good when i've watched him and you tend to find McGinn's have balls.... something we often lack with our players.

Glad he's signed. Solid player from what I've seen in the past. If he's good enough for Jack Ross he's good enough for me.

What the Hamilton and St Mirren Covid acres have showed us is that it might well be a squad game this season. As such. Pretty delighted to get another experienced proven pro into the squad

I'm fine with this signing especially as many suggested we need a squad and people to cover. Stephen seems to fit that bill and Ross knows him well, I agree that his wage probably isn't anywhere near what Newell or Allan or on as well.

My main concern is that he hasn't played for a while, and he's coming off the back of a few injuries. What type of player he will be when on the pitch remains to be seen still. I trust Jack Ross but I do half expect us to continue our business and grab another starting midfielder potentially.

We are 2nd in the league in the middle of the biggest financial crisis to ever hit the game. Cool your jets. Hibs have given Ross good backing in the current climate yet a few posters are really upset we have missed out on one or two signings to cash-rich Aberdeen. From a level-headed perspective, Hibs have done really well this window so far. This is a low-risk and low-cost signing.
    Very well said that man

Totally get that, but why has it taken this amount of time for Mcginn to get signed up? We are struggling to get someone, and he's struggling to find a club.
Maybe to show he was completely over his injury

Welcome Stephen McGinn. I am sure you will bring the same determination as your brothers and no little skill and leadership.

Good to have him on board, if he has the tenacity and mental strength of his brothers he will go well. He may just be the battler we need in certain games, him and Gogic in the middle to allow the " flair" players more freedom.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.

    Agree.

Solid signing but I can see why people aren’t jumping for joy.. we thought we had McCrorie in the bag but ended up with Stephen .. he’s not going to push us on the way McCrorie could have.. anyway good luck and welcome to Hibernian Stephen.

    Come to think of it,

One McGinn in your team = one Scottish cup in a season
This year we have two McGinns and we have two Scottish cups to compete for...

Do you think your security can keep you in purity, you will not shake us off above or below. Scottish friction, Scottish fiction

    Plus the league of course...

I guess we’d need the McGinn trio to do the treble though.

Can't have too many hungry players with a good attitude in the squad. The fact he's trained with us for a while and won himself a contract speaks volumes about his character. That was never really in question with him being a McGinn though.

In a season where we will suffer the usual injuries and suspensions but also the unknown impact of covid 19, testing, quarantining against a back drop of no fans and reduced income then signing an experienced pro who knows the league, as a pool player makes absolute sense. I actually think we may need to rely on other similar type players to get us through the season. We could still be ravaged by covid and players of this type could prove vital. We need a squad, a pool, it cant all be first team signings. St Mirren team on Saturday was the perfect example how part of your team can be affected. Let's get behind him and cheer him on if and when required.
This sums up where I'm at with McGinn coming in. It baffles me how anyone who actually supports Hibs can't see the sense of it. I guess the very same folk would be falling over themselves to be slaughtering the club if we have a Covid situation and ended up playing untried youngsters instead. And no, Mr self -important, I'm not talking about you, but if the cap fits...….

Well that's good - because they must be working to a smaller budget than last season.

And hopefully, soon clubs can get some paying customers in to games.
I think we all hope that.

You can actually support Hibs and question them on things. Many people questioned why Hecky lasted so long, for example. Many people questioned out business last summer. Many people questioned things like loyalty points, the decisions of the club that led to relegation etc.

This is probably the first signing we've ever made that I've really questioned. Does that suddenly make going to games since I was 4 years old not matter?

I am one of the people questioning him coming in and also one of the biggest fans of playing young players and giving them chances on this site. I wouldn't be questioning the club at all if we had to play youngsters during a crisis, I don't think anyone in their right mind would. Many people were saying that was the route we may have to go down this season. Personally, I'd prefer that than signing guys on 1 year deals who might not even play.

It really is strange that someone cant question a signing without stuff about them not being a real supporter or other condesending stuff. No one, including myself, has said anything unreasonable about the signing in this thread.

Don't really know what the last sentence of your post is about, bit strange I have to say.

Sorry not sure if it’s posted anywhere else but below is a good article on how McGinn will help out on the coaching side of things too

The jury was out when we signed Paul McGinn in January. Guess what he is our number one right-back and one of the first names picked by JR each week.

I am not saying Stephen McGinn is going to have the same impact however I trust our manager at this weird time. Plus there is something in the McGinn DNA which suggests to me he may have a pretty good season and play a big part between now and end of May.

How many times is it said we’re lacking leaders on the pitch. S McG was St Mirren’s captain and Jack Ross thinks highly of him. Good enough for me.
