    Handball

Haven't seen it discussed much, but what were your thoughts on the handball incident on Saturday?

There was no doubt it hit his hand/arm, and the referee definitely saw, as he awarded the corner and was only about 10 yards away.

But what are the new handball rules?

Not a penalty for me. I’d be annoyed if we lost a penalty for that

I’m sure part of the new rules are that if a player has extended his arm and made his body unnaturally bigger and the ball hits the arm it’s a handball. That was the case on Saturday as his hand was out at his side, it was an absolute stonewaller but of course it was missed.

Absolute certain penalty. Just fortunate it didn't prevent the victory.

It’s a stonewaller as per the rules. Genuinely not even a discussion, arms well away from the body, not a natural silhouette.

I think that with fans in the ground a big howl goes up - and the ref gives the penalty.

I think so too. When you see some of the penalties being awarded after forensically examining footage from all angles in the EPL then that was as clear a penalties as you will ever see. Had the referee had a better view of it he would have given it without doubt. The fans reaction is usually a good barometer of how clear an infringement is, and everyone behind the goal and in the West at that end would have been screaming for it which could have convinced the referee that he would be right to award it.

Thought penalty all day long but did ref think ball had went out before Doidge played it.

Was there not also a horrific decision where he stopped play for foul on Boyle when there was a clear advantage with two players about to break for goal in the second half? Looked a terrible decision. Very odd Sportscene didn't show penalty incident in highlights.

Thought he had an excellent view of it. John Beaton so not certain he would have given it if good view.

Would the defender not have had his back to the referee? Can’t really recall where he was positioned at the time, but you have a point right enough regarding Beaton

He can't have thought that as he gave the corner.

Yup thought that at the time on Hibs TV but only saw it in real time but it looked like Hibs had two men breaking over the half way line with not a single Kille defender in their own half or on that side of the pitch at all!

    Agreed

Maybe harsh but that's the rules nowadays

Football rules change but somethings never will, Beaton is a cheating bar steward

    Thankfully it didn't cost us

Not really that odd. Bbc heartsland after all.🤔🤔
The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits

The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they do not know the game

If the defender had his arm at his sides, it wouldn't have been a penalty. He had his right arm raised, though, and was a definite penalty under the new rules.

Personally I think it's a stupid rule but we're going to be on the receiving end of 'penalties' like this so we have the right to be disappointed when they're not given in our favour.

Put it this way I’ve seen less, a lot less, given under the new rules. Definite penalty, regardless of how harsh it may seem or how aggrieved we may feel against us.

If that’s anywhere else and it goes to VAR it’s a pen. Like pointed out it angered me similarly the ref stopping to book the Killie player when we where away mid through the second half too. The players didn’t even seem that annoyed l.

With my understanding of the new rules it’s a penalty. I.don't think it should be though as there was no intent but that’s another issue. There are going to be a lot of unhappy players, managers and supporters with some of the decisions because of this new rule I’d imagine. Fortunately it didn’t affect the outcome on Saturday.

His arm wasn't pulled in to his side - it was out high and wide and stopped the cutback. Robbed.

We have to accept penalties for Hibs are rarer than hens teeth, even when both hands are involved and balls dragged over the line for a “corner”. Okay it wasn’t Falkirk and not the same referee but the outcome is the same.
