Isn't it Mee and Matt Busby? That's the song United fans sing, though I don't know if it's based on real events.

I thought the Hibs version was Bertie Mee and BOB Shankly.

Bob managed Hibs in the sixties. So Hibs version of song should be Bob.

Defo “ Said Bertie Mee to Bill Shankly” ...if my Cow Shed memory serves me correctly followed by “ your gonna get your f #@cking heads kicked in” and “ dig a hole and bury him”

Was the song not initially about Arsenal’s North Bank and Liverpool’s Kop?

Lots of teams sung different versions of it.

Bertie Mee said to Matt Busby
Have you heard of the North Bank Highbury?
No said Matt, you cockney twat
But ive heard of the Stretford Enders.

Hearts FC Version -Said Bertie Mee to Bill Shankly have you heard of the North Bank Highbury, Shanks said NO I Don't Think so but I've heard of the Gorgie Aggro

His name is in a song of Partick Thistle due to the fact that he played for Thistle during the war. The song goes - "Said Bertie Mee to Bill Shankly have you ever heard of the Northbank Highbury. Shanks says no I don't think so, but I've heard of the Firhill Shed Boys

The Burnley version of the same song goes "Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankly have you heard of the North Bank, Highbury? Shanks said no I don't think so but I've heard of the Longside, Burnley"

The Liverpool version goes - "Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankly have you ever heard of the Northbank Highbury. Shanks says no I don't think so, but I've heard of the Annie Road agro! Nah nah nah etc!

The original is the Millwall version which actually rhymes. It goes "Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankly have you heard of the North Bank, Highbury? Shanks said no I don't think so but I've heard of the Millwall Cold Blow" ..after Cold Blow Lane in London where the Den(Millwall's old ground)was situated

The words of the song we sang in the 60s were certainly:

Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankly
Have you heard of the North Bank Highbury?
Shanks said No, I don't think so
But I've heard of the Mental Hi-Bees ...

'Interesting' piece of trivia - Bob later managed Stirling Albion who played in red strips at a ground called Annfield.

That sounds a lot more like a compliment than an insult.
