Decided to read back the thread to see what folk made of that- kinda regretting that now! Win ugly- check! Won from a winning position- check! Good debuts from all- check! Top of the league- check!

First half there was plenty of good stuff and some fantastic interplay. Great depth of squad with impact players on bench they will turn round plenty of games late on.

We decided to defend as a team for most of second half- very unlike hibs and cant say that aspect was easy to watch. But one that JR needed to address and that will breed confidence. The score doesnt lie. Offir very quiet and one very smart save off a hibs toe.

Great to have Hibs back! GGTTH

Allan has been guff since he returned. Nesbits movement was good but Allans distribution was shocking and every time he tried to find Nesbit he gave it to a Kilmarnock player. I’d be tempted to play mallan instead

I don't think we looked positive enough on our tunnel run outs. Needs work.

He was clearly a yard or two of the pace but probably a combination of him shielding and lacking both fitness and match sharpness. 2 or 3 competitive games and he should be back to up to speed

What? We can't knock Allan without questioning others who did the same.

I'm pointing on the double standard.

Is it just me that thinks Nisbet isn't getting enough credit? Apart from good movement and dragging defenders with him, his control, work with the ball then pass for the opening goal was first class - not just the simple assist it's being written off as.

Brutal point. Allan picks ball up in own half, 10 seconds later- goal. Fewer of his passes will come off- because hes trying far more complex passes which most players in the league cant even see. Wasnt at his best for sure. But goodness me- enjoy yourself a little and lighten up.

Hard fought win, great start to the season, could have been a little sharper and tried to dominate the ball more but it's the first game of a very surreal period.

I was lucky enough to be able to watch the game at the ground thought Newell was excellent, and Porteous was my Man of the Match due to his will to win and battle for every header and cross. Last 15 minutes we looked very disjointed, almost had the feel of a pre-season fixture, we lost shape a little and played too deep. For all Ofir's quality at shot stopping, his kicking is still woeful and I can't stand seeing any keeper kick straight out of play under no pressure - he really needs to improve that part of his game.

Special mention for Josh Doig, good debut.

I'm really warming to Newell - was a harsh critic when he arrived but he has undoubtedly got skill and poise and is very composed on the ball. Could be a very important player for us this season.

Biggest positive the 3 points and a clinical first half - and watching Hibs in action

Biggest negative - lost our shape, played too deep second half, and allowed Killie too much time on the ball, especially to get it into the wide areas.

Allan 10 goals 11 assists in 2900 minutes = guff
Mallan 13 goals 13 assists in 4100 minutes = poty

We'd have been bottom 3 without Allan last season. Quality player.

He showed great skill rounding the midfielder who made a silly slide tackle. The ball to Boyle was a bog standard pass though. It was a well played pass but nothing most footballers couldn't do easily. Nisbet's assist was at least as good and he had a similar game to Allan. One great moment and the rest very disappointing.

If Allan played more simple balls he would be a far better payer. I'm not saying to stop playing those eye of the needle balls but sometimes the risk isn't worth the reward and constantly losing possession in good areas gives the opposition a great lift. I forgot he was shielding so the lack of energy and effort is maybe understandable.

Mallan wasn’t played in as advanced a role as Allan. I just suggested he should get a chance not that he’s given POTY.

Don’t PM me about this post btw thanks

Indeed. I'm delighted with today's win. Rough performance at times but Doidge made a big difference. Pointless to single out players, especially diabetic ones who haven't played in months..

I thought he played well and thought tam mcmanus was being incredibly harsh with some of the balls he was expecting him to hold up in the 2nd half. He didnt really get any chances created for him. We seemed to be quite direct in the 2nd half in particular

I've really missed the bitching after Hibs win.

    "the studio isn't light enough"

"Allan only set up a goal"

"Nisbet didn't score a hat trick"

    "the defence was pish"

    FFS.

First competitive game in nearly 5 months

    2 goals

    New-ish formation and signings

    3 points

Imo, we can be way too over critical at times. Micro-analysing every minute detail.
