When Rafa was doing ***** it was Mike Ashley’s fault. When Steve Bruce is doing ***** it’s his own fault, it seems.

I dunno who decided on Joelinton for £40m, but that money could/should have been spent much better.
If they backed Rafa the same way they have backed Bruce I think they could have kicked on.

Rafa got backed plenty. Well over a hundred million on players, mostly *****.

Who’s picking the signings is what I’d question?

You are miles from the truth. Benitez had a minus net spend of 11 million at Newcastle, bruce has a net spend of over 100 million and a much higher wage structure.

Can’t be arsed with the “net spend” chat. I’m not talking about how good the balance sheet was.

Did he or didn’t he spend over £100m? Regardless of who he sold, he spent a ****load on players who weren’t very good. That’s where I’m not miles from the truth.

Net spend is a far better way to do it. Assume you just can't be arsed with it (similar to the lampard/klopp one) because it goes against your argument? Spending 100 million but having to sell 200 million worth makes you a worse side generally. Spending 100 million and selling no one makes you better.

Rafa had to sell players to buy. Bruce hasn't. That's a significant difference. Comparing Rafa to Steve Bruce is ridiculous as well. No offense to Bruce but he isn't near benitez.

Talking about the two of them at Newcastle is completely comparable. Bruce is outperforming him as shown on Sky Sports last night. Does it really make you better having a negative net spend? If you both spend £100m on a team that’s on the park then it doesn’t matter who has been sold, the team on the park still cost £100m.

But Bruce doesn’t have the players to sell, nobody wants to buy those Newcastle players he has, so are we saying Rafa had a better squad available to him, and still did worse?

So if you have a team worth 300 million, then you sell 200 hundred million of that, then respend 100 million its the same as just spending 100 million?

    Definitely not.

On the pitch? Of course it is, unless you are saying Bruce (hypothetically) has that £200m in the squad that he never sold. Both teams would still have £100m worth of players on the park, regardless of how good the team must’ve been the season before when they had an extra £200m of quality in it.

I fancied West Ham as relegation candidates this season but they have been brilliant. They actually try to play football rather than hoof it.

Lampard doesn't half get an easy time. He is getting next to nothing from players bought for millions.

How much longer do you think the Russian mafia will give him?

They're playing some lovely stuff...could've been 4 or 5 given some of the excellent chances they've had

Brendan Rodgers has done a fabulous job. It's amazing how Celtic have gone from him and how far he took them forward to their current car crash of a situation.

Agreed. He was excellent for Swansea and for Liverpool for the most part despite a poor ending. Really was an amazing appointment by Celtic at the time and he has since shown at Leicester he is a top Manger. Probably the best British Manager is the game right now unless I’m forgetting someone obvious:

I'm currently doing a coaching course and on same course is a former Celtic analyst who is now working in Norway I think. He couldn’t speak highly enough of Rogers. Said it only took him 3 or 4 training sessions to completely transform the way Celtic played.

    Rodgers has a football brain.

    Lennon doesn't.

It’s the kind of season reminiscent of the last time Leicester win the league....
