Not sure maybe because they had to?

It was a necessity, no champs league from mid-december until february and no international fixtures. Result is more games in Dec-Jan.

It's Christmas time, and there's no need to be afraid.

Last season we had seven games from 30th November to 29th December.

The season before we had eight in December alone.

They've basically repeated that pattern but removed the January break. Presumably it's to fit in as many of the incomplete Euro Competitions as possible.

Exactly that, there are very few fixtures dates available so everything’s going to be a bit crammed in this season.

More evidence, if it was needed, that ending last season when they did was absolutely the right thing to do.

Also more evidence that making the top league bigger and adding in additional games was a shambolic idea. Not that any more evidence was needed like

But the BBC Scotland chief sports writer still believes a bigger top flight was an easy and obvious solution that would cause no harm.

Does someone want to ask him how he would fit extra fixtures in?

There's 34 match slots available before the split and 33 games to fit in.

Given the weather between December and Jan last year compared to Feb and March I am not sure a winter break can be scheduled for Scottish football in a way that genuinely adds benefit. Usually just ends up a glut of midweek fixtures afterwards.

And beforehand. Remember how many games were crammed into last December.
Mature, sensible signature required for responsible position. Good prospects for the right candidate. Apply within.

That's what Neil Doncaster said on sky sports anyway.
