If we did that, where do you draw the line?
Do we protest against the millions of people dying due to poverty, corruption and war in Africa every year? What about the plight of the Rohingya Muslims? The oppression of the Palestinians? The Native Americans living in ridiculously poor conditions in tribal reservations in the US?
I'm not in any way criticising anyone who has sympathy for the Black Lives Matter movement, but the millions dying in Africa are also Black. Do they not matter?

Thank you.
I hope I didn't offend anyone or give the idea that I don't care about racism, because I really do. I care about a great many things... possibly a little too strongly some times, I must admit

On topic, well done Hibs for showing solidarity with the ‘black lives matter’ movement."Washing one's hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral.' - Paulo Freire

Franck Djedje. Set up El Alagui in injury time in a derby and scored a 88th minute header 1 minute after livi equalised to win it on a cold wednesday in March 2015. Think he only scored 1 other goal and that may have been Arbroath in the Scottish cup.

Didn't Kevin Harper say that he was racially abused during an Edinburgh Derby by one of the Hearts players?
Does anybody remember who the Hearts player was?
There's also been a few incidents in recent seasons where some fans (on both sides) have racially abused players. The numbers involved have thankfully been very low but it's shocking that this still happens at all.Last edited by Keith_M; 05-06-2020 at 08:13 AM.

As a club we seem to be in a position where we are comfortable not to factor in commercial income from a shirt sponsor.
In keeping with our tradition as an innovative and groundbreaking club, but also one that promotes a social conscience, we could then perhaps take it a step further.
We can afford fresh strips for players and we can afford lettering, that’s not an issue. Perhaps we could change the statement on the front of players’ shirts on a regular basis, every month perhaps, to highlight something that would benefit from the publicity we would give. Domestic or international. Fans could buy unbranded tops at the usual release time and get the lettering if they wished.
Choosing the statement or cause is the tricky part as not all fans would like all the causes. I think it would have to be a fan suggestion scheme, but the final decision sits with Ron and/or Leanne, and that’s that. Probably need some dialogue with the players - I’m thinking about that Irish player, James Maclean?, who objects to wearing a poppy.
And obviously we would have to always have Movember in tribute to the legend that is Rod Petrie, king of the mouser, lord of the tache.Last edited by Mibbes Aye; 05-06-2020 at 03:37 PM.

Thankfully I think times have changed for the better in that regard, as I'd imagine he'd be the subject of a fairly long ban nowadays and also widespread condemnation.
