I don’t think there’s any problem with JR identifying targets. It would appear, if the rumours I hear are true, the handling of the deals thereafter is not ideal.

I'd say the problem will be less to do with Motherwell and more that Campbell, like Docherty, will want to try his hand down south rather than get a bit more money to play in the same league.

He’s still under 23, so I presume they’d get a development fee if he leaves at the end of his contact
Think they’ve still got a bad taste after the Chris Cadden case

They do. Seemingly in Cadden’s case if he’d gone to Oxford directly, rather than on loan from Columbus Crew, Motherwell claim they would be due £320,000 as a development fee

If we were prepared to pay the reported £350k for McCorie whats the real difference between that and offering the same to Motherwell for AC?

I’d argue AC is the better player and prospect. £350k with a 20% sell on and maybe even a fringe player (Hallberg?) going on loan for the season....

Whether McGinn had options or not is neither here nor there, we paid a development fee plus a large sell on %, who's to say Motherwell might not accept similar, can't see it though.

League One clubs can't easily outbid us now that they have a wage cap and players hoping to move up in wages will all be looking at the same limited number of vacancies in the Championship so there won't be as many options as there might have been before the cap was put in place.
