As the title suggests. I may argue the toss with anyone who refutes that Jonty Rhodes was the best ever fielder.
I guess there is a difference between slips and other positions. Rhodes wasn’t a slip and Alastair Cook probably deserves a mention, but slips have a certain advantage, in terms of position to defensive bowling.

Back in the sixties South Africa had Colin Bland at cover who was widely accepted as the best fielder in the world but seldom seen as his country were ostracised for obvious reasons.
In the tour of UK in 1965 crowds would gather to watch him hit a single stump repeatedly from distance in training sessions.
