    A perverse HIbs/EPL Quiz

OK, 5 questions today & 5 tomorrow covering 12 EPL teams. All you have to do is name the current EPL team(s) from the statement & the specific Hibs connection from the statement/question/answer. An easy one to get you started then some more thinking required! I should say all the answers are post war & only Q2 makes reference to an earlier period. Try to name both the team & the connection before answering.

    1. This team has had 2 Scottish knights as Manager.

    2. This team paid the 1st 5 figure transfer fee.

    3. These 2 teams came out to the same theme music for over 50 years

    4. This team returned to the Premiership this century for the 1st time in 33 years & immediately got relegated.

    5. This team made their European Cup/Champions League debut 44 years late!

    Good luck!!

1 Man Utd Matt Busby - played for Hibs. Alex Ferguson - brother Martin coached at Hibs.
2 Arsenal - first two teams to wear white sleeves?
    3 No idea.
    4 Fulham? - can't think of a connection.
5 Chelsea - Hibs played in EC when they knocked it back and thus became the first British side to play in European football - huzzah!

  4. #3

    Number 4

Number 4, Hibs signed George Best from Fulham?

  5. #4
    3. Watford and Everton - ‘Z Cars’.... er, Dave Beaumont became a copper after leaving Hibs? 👀

Johnny Keating from Edinburgh wrote the Z Cars theme. A mate of my Dad and as Hibs Daft as they came.

Ok, #1 is obviously correct re Busby & Fergie.
#2 It is Arsenal but remember the connection is in the statement.
#3 It is Everton & Watford coming out to Z cars, written by Hibby Johnny Keating but i need a wee bit more than that.
#4 Fulham are not a current EPL team.
#5 Chelsea, Tomsk essentially has it correct. The FA did not allow Chelsea to participate so Hibs were only UK reps in 1st FA cup. Ironically Chelsea's eventual 1st entry into Champions League was not as champions!

So we still need the connection for #2, a little more for #3 & all of #4

Ok, close enough. Arsenal were the 1st team to pay a 5 figure fee for a player. Peter M was their 1st 6 figure signing. The clues are in the question, its like Hibs Only Connect! :

See above, Fulham are not a current EPL team.

I confess I had Liverpool for Q1 - managed by Bill Shankly whose brother managed Hibs and also by Kenny Dalglish whose son played for Hibs - just one flaw in my reasoning.

For Q4 I can only think of Blackpool and Huddersfield who kind of fit the bill, but Huddersfield stayed up for two seasons so that leaves Blackpool. No idea what the Hibs connection is though.

Edit: Hang on Brog - you didn't say anything about the club in Q4 being a current EPL team....

Afraid not. I actually thought this would be easiest as it's most current.

Number 4 is Burnley and Steven Fletcher is the connection. He signed for them for a season in the EPL and was in the team that was relegated.

  28. #27
If it had been Bournemouth I would have said that I was on holiday there around 1968 and saw them being knocked out of the league cup by Wrexham who had Lawrie Leslie in goals. Not a lot of people know that.

Correct! To add to it he was Burnley's POTY for that season in the Prem.

I reffed a game in the Kent league many years ago & Lawrie's boy was striker for the home team. We had a drink after the game then he took me to his home to meet Lawrie & i sat for hours looking at his scrap books! Great guy Lawrie!

Against Bournemouth, who were at least one league above Wrexham he was superb and when some guys near asked who he was they had never heard of him, needless to say. When I said he’d played for Scotland they were very surprised because he was so good.
