    27/10/1991 Skol League Cup Final

    Hibernian 2 v 0 Dunfermline

    McIntyre pen
    Wright

After a dull nervous first half in which HIBS’ only chance was when Ray Sharp passed the ball back to goalkeeper Andy Rhodes leaving his goalkeeper one on one with HIBS striker Keith Wright - fortunately for Sharp Rhodes managed to fall on the ball at the feet of the striker-the first half ended all square

Knowing his side had to score first if only to calm the growing nerves amongst the Hibee legions on the terraces and in the pubs and clubs Manager Alex Miller simply calmly reminded his players that they were better than the Pars man for man and as a team and all that they had to do was just relax and take control of the game and their reward would come

HIBS kicked off for the second half shooting towards their own fans and were like a team revitalised HIBS immediately won a corner which ended with Gareth Evans shooting narrowly over the crossbar
In 48 minutes the breakthrough came Michael Weir played a neat one two with Wright and burst into the box only to be fouled by the hapless Sharp who grabbed at Weir’s waist but was unable to bring the HIBS man down That was enough to make Weir mis-kick and topple over and three quarters of the Stadium shouted ‘penalty ‘and Referee Brian McGinlay had no hesitation in pointing to the spot

Tommy McIntyre the coolest man in Hampden stepped up and sent Dunfermline’s ace penalty stopper Andy Rhodes the wrong way from the penalty spot

It was all one way traffic after that but the fans sensed that HIBS really needed to finish Dunfermline off Billy Davies having their first shot on target in the 75th minute

Five minutes from the end Weir and Evans dispossessed Cunnington before Weir played a lovely one touch through ball to Wright who went hurtling through on goal leaving Norrie McCathie and Davie Moyes in his wake before calmly placing the ball beyond the advancing Rhodes

The fans knew it was all over but Brian Hamilton still had time to rattle a post with a 25 yard thunderbolt and Pat McGinlay fired a Graham Mitchell cross just wide

    27/10/1985 Scottish League Cup Final

    Hibernian 0 v 3 Aberdeen

After knocking out both Celtic and Rangers HIBS were really up against it against Alex Ferguson’s all conquering Aberdeen without Captain Gordon Rae

Stevie Cowan brought out an early save from Jim Leighton but after that it was all Aberdeen John Hewitt for Aberdeen sent over the perfect cross for Eric Black to open the scoring after 9 minutes three minutes later he was at it again when he provided another perfect cross for Billy Stark to head the second

HIBS did try to get back into the game but the Dons defence was brilliantly marshalled by Willie Miller

When Eric Black got his second and the Dons’ third the Cup dream was over for another year

Paul Kane did test Jim Leighton late on with a 25 yarder but it was too little too late

    Ok. I’m going to go…

Burridge and Cropley, amazingly almost 20 years apart with Hibs despite being in same Villa side.

I think David Murphy won it with Birmingham too, but I am not 100 percent sure..so will wait for you to correct me.

Hibernian 2 v 1 Queen Of The South

    Riordan 2

Hibs managed to squeeze past Queens to face Celtic in the quarterfinals despite making this tie more difficult for themselves than it actually was

Hibs took the lead after 10 minutes when Brian Reid failed to cut out an innocuous looking ball into the box the ball fell to Derek Riordan who made no such mistake controlling the ball with his first touch and sticking it past Colin Scott with his second. 12 minutes later HIBS added a second when Garry O’Connor rose between two defenders and headed the ball down into the path of Riordan who selected his spot and gave Scott no chance

HIBS failed to add to their lead but came close on several occasions but were made to sweat on the 90 th minute when Colin Murdock pulled down a Queens player in the box and was sent off for a second bookable offence. Alex Burke duly dispatched the spot kick past Andersson

With the clock ticking down Queens were only able to manage one last almighty stramash in the HIBS box with several having chances that were blocked and thankfully the danger was eventually cleared

HIBS however were without the injured Eddie Turnbull. Willie Ormond now taking his place in the engine room with debutante James Bradley out on the left wing

Just when it looked as though a replay would be required Motherwell inspired by exhibee Johnny Aitkenhead struck in 75 minutes when Kelly opened the scoring Three minutes later Forrest added a second and a miskick by Younger allowed Watters in to add a third

Hearts’ anxiety led to incidents of the ungentlemanly type which scarcely reflected to their credit Five Hibernians were crippled It was however a most welcome victory the Hibernian players were congratulated by all hands and the cheering was loud and long

Or as Gaz once said on Off The Ball him and Deeks had a telescopic understanding.

He then got a row of Tam Cowan for swearing.

Can’t really understand why there wasn’t a greater demand for Gaz and Deeks as pundits.

They would certainly have been more entertaining than a lot of the boring predictable pundits who are
    currently getting gigs.

Jim Scott scored his 17th goal of the season this day in 1964. Wish his namesake would emulate that kind of record

    Hibernian 2 v 1 The Rangers

    Cummings 11
    Hanlon 73

Hibs ended The Rangers’ 100% record in the Championship with this win at Easter Road. Jason Cummings curled in a superb opener after 11 minutes as The Rangers defence stood and watched

The Rangers pulled one back after the restart when a speculative effort from distance by Lee Wallace was deflected into his own goal by Darren McGregor The Rangers were on the ascendency and McGregor redeemed himself when he got his head to another Wallace effort deflecting it off the underside of the crossbar and away to safety

Jason Cummings brought out a superb save from Foderingham after a superb pass from John McGinn

Hibernian regained the lead against the run of play when Paul Hanlon headed home a McGinn corner

Came across this wonderful article on Willie Hamilton.

    https://archive.ph/20120720173611/ht...m?id=139922006

I saw him play at Hunters Hall in a match labelled as Hibs All Stars versus Hearts All Stars as a nipper. The only player I recognised was Willie McFarlane who had recently left Hibs after his stint as manager. I had a wee autograph book ( long lost) and at the end of the match my auld man said to me, "that's Willie Hamilton, his autograph is worth getting". I walked over to him and asked him to sign my book and he said, "I'm nobody son, you don't need my autograph." A complex character.

Talk about back to reality, Hibs next game, which was at Cappielow Park on the Saturday, Hibs and Morton played in torrential conditions with the game being abandoned after 33 minutes with the score 0-0.

The game was replayed near the end of the campaign, where we got beat 2-1. It was the only occasion that I went to 35 Hibs leagues games in a campaign, when the set up was an 18 team league playing each other home and away.

I was at that Morton game too. One away turnstile open. Queued in the pouring rain and got in at 3:20. Game was abandoned 15 minutes later. Brief demonstration on the pitch afterwards demanding our money back- to no avail, obviously.

I remember a beautiful day out to see the Hibs play at Dumbarton. Nice and warm with the sun shining but if you looked over the Clyde there was a massive black cloud hanging over Greenock and it was obviously teeming down there.
