Erich Schaedler tried to leave his mark on Fergie after the match. Fergie hid in the dressing room until after the Hibs bus left. The imprints of Shades studs may still be on the dressing room door!!
    Heard the story as well.

I had a conversation with him about that. I think one of the things was Eddie felt he set out to injure him. It wasn't a an unlucky tackle. You are right, he never forgave him and wouldn't even talk about Ferguson and his accomplishments as a manager.

I’m afraid there was no sporting ovation from my part of the ground at the Berwick game! Not only was every tackle a foul but there was a huge amount of off the ball stuff to try and intimidate us which was quite unusual in domestic football then. My memory(probably faulty)is that they had one attempt at goal which was deflected and Thomson Allan had a good save followed by an attempt to kick him as he pulled the ball from the line .
i was at the game and I can’t remember any standing ovation, also the game was poor as they just fouled us all day and got away with it.

Pat Stanton clearly never bore the same grudge. Odd.

    Nor did Jimmy O'Rourke.

Jimmy did some of his badges at Largs along with Fergie.
In later years ,if Jimmy wanted comps for Old Trafford, he just had to pick up the phone.

However ,it was a very bad tackle on Sojer ,to say the least, and i dont doubt Erich went radge at Fergie after the game.

Ned held grudges with, and blanked a few in football, not just Fergie.
Jock Stein wasn't on Neds Christmas card list !

Come to think of it Alex Cropley himself shared a stage with Ferguson at Paddy’s Usher Hall do.

You're spot on there Michael. Ned loathed Stein. The Fergie incident was made worse by the ref (who i cant remember) indicating that Crops was play acting & he didn't stop the game. Crops dragged himself off while the game carried on. On a happier note yet another Roy of the Rovers moment from Joe B. Back from injury, on as sub & he scored the winner with an outrageous diving header.

Ned told the story that after defeating Celtic at Pittodrie he could hear Jock Stein’s limping footsteps trying to catch up with him in the tunnel. He slowed down to let him catch up.

“ Aye ye beat us but you’ll no try as hard against that other mob.”

Turnbull replied that he was wrong and that he was happy to beat them both any day of the week

Pretty sure that ET was part of Jock Stein’s Coaching Staff for Scotland and he became good friends with Jock Wallace as we had a couple of ‘friendlies’ against Leicester City and Seville

Turnbull was no longer at Hibs when Wallace was at Seville.

Does anybody else think that ET stayed at Hibs about two years too long?

Maybe if we'd had a change of manager in about '77 or '78, it wouldn't have all gone downhill so badly.

Turnbull and Tam McNiven were part of Stein’s Scotland set up for a while.

Not sure Eddie loathed Stein, I just think he saw him as a fierce rival. He knew he had been a much better player and believed he was the equal of anyone in terms of management.

    I 20/2/2011 Scottish League SPL

    St Mirren 0 v 1 Hibernian

    Dickoh 87

Francis Dickoh’s late back post header from a Calum Booth cross gave Colin Calderwood’s HIBS their third win on the trot and moved them six points clear of St Mirren at the bottom of the League

HIBS looked the hungrier and looked as though they wanted to win with Jimmy Scott going close hitting the bar and the post with headers

Hibs Stack Towell Booth Hanlon Dickoh Wotherspoon Scott Palsson Miller Riordan and Sodje

    Subs Stevenson Nish Rankin

    Att 3500

    20/2/2010 Scottish League SPL

    Motherwell 1 v 0 Hibernian

Liam Miller received a red card in this match that was later down-graded to yellow

    20/2/1999 Scottish League Division One

    Falkirk 1 v 2 Hibernian

    Hartley
    Collins

Hibs’ new signing from Strasbourg Franck Sauzee made his debut for HIBS on a cold sleet filled day on a pitch that resembled a tattle field that had been flattened by a steamroller

Right away the hibee hordes or those that had bothered to travel through in the 6000 crowd could see that this guy was class head and shoulders above everything else on the pitch

No matter the situation he was calmness personified able to weigh things up immediately taking instant command showing poise and vision strolling through the game in a way probably not seen in a HIBS strip since the days of Pat Stanton

Paul Hartley put HIBS ahead just before half time Marino Keith equalised on 52 minutes for the Bairns A minute later goalscorer Paul Hartley got a rush of blood to the head and saw red

Hibs were now up against it but Franck Sauzee now played our ‘ get out of jail card’ flicking the ball sideways to the unlikely attacking figure of Derek Collins whose shot from outside the box was deflected high and looped over the goalkeeper’s head before resting in the Falkirk pokey

Alex Marinkov also made his debut and ‘Crunchie’ played for Falkirk

Hibs Gottskalksson Collins Lovering Skinner Marinkov Dennis Hartley Sauzee Crawford Latapy and McGinlay

    Att 6000

The match appears on this clip at 32 minutes in

    Hibernian 1 v 2 Hearts

    Robertson and Foster for Hearts

The things you see when you’ve no got a gun

    20/2/1982 Scottish League Premier Division

    St Mirren 2 v 2 Hibernian

    Gordon Rae 2

Frank McAvennie and Frank McDougall for Saints

    20/2/1965 Scottish Cup Round 2

    Martin
    Cormack

    20/2/1954 Scottish League Division One

    Partick Thistle 0 v 2 Hibernian

    Ormond
    Turnbull

Hibs were the better team for the bulk of this game and took the lead when Willie Ormond headed home a McDonald freekick on the half hour. HIBS sealed the points when Eddie Turnbull fired home a Lawrie Reilly pass ten minutes later

HIBS Hamilton Govan Paterson Gallacher Ward Combe McDonald Johnstone Reilly Turnbull and Ormond

In his book, Crops doesn't say too much about it. Tbf, he didn't know much, as it came from behind. But he shies away from calling out Fergie, instead describing him as "a troublesome and awkward player with not much skill, and a real nightmare to play against "

I didn't realise the Wayne Foster match was in February (although it makes sense) as it was T Shirt weather from what I remember.

If ever there was an occasion for a professional foul and taking one for the team it was that last minute Foster goal 😖

One of the 3 things I remember from Beaumont's time at Hibs - running along beside Foster instead of kicking him into the old South stand. The others were winning a medal before he'd even kicked a ball for us and scoring early against Anderlecht.

Jackson scored a stunner in the NI game.

Always thought he should have been in the full squad earlier than he was.

Only 5 and 6 years ago and just over 8k at ER. Our cup triumph totally changed our club.

Here Billy none of this trendy wing-back stuff-Eddie had moved to wing half in 1958 and was still good enough to play at the World Cup in Sweden when he made the journalists select team for the group stage. As you rightly say-the end of an era-interesting that Joe Baker played with all the members of the Famous Five in that couple of years.

Sorry meant to say wing half

IIRC Joe Baker was unfit for the game in question and his place was taken by Fox
