Our 1st cup tie in the cup final 71/72 season was at Firhill in front of 21,000. I remember the terraces being rammed & Schaedler & Gordon both scored their 1st Hibs goals. Must have been 12k Hibbies there.

    Was there

Remember the second goal one of Shades’ trade mark long throws was cleared back to him and he lashed it back straight into the faraway postage stamp

One of Erich’s rare goals. A 25 yarder if I remember correctly. We won every round to the final 2-0 ( after 1-1 in the semi) and it was supposed to be an good omen as we had done the same on our way to lifting the trophy in 1902.
We know how that worked out!!

I noticed Bobby Combe was playing left wing against Partick-probably Willie suffering one of his three leg breaks.Because Combe could play practically anywhere he invariably moved forward from left half. This was a bit of a double edged sword because many good reserve forwards never got a real chance to progress .Hibs title winning teams used very few players but it meant that when they started to fade out suitable replacements were thin on the ground.

Was that the same game that in order to see it out Stanton went back to play double sweeper with Blackley. If it was they could still be playing now and Partick Thistle still wouldn’t have scored.

Quite possibly but I don't really recall it. My memory is of Alan Gordon scoring early, first 10 mins and right in front of us, then Shades scoring in 2nd half. Possibly the confidence of youth but I don't really remember us being under pressure at any time.

Alan Gordon and Erich Schaedler scored their first goals for the club in this Scottish Cup tie against the League Cup holders

You are correct Eddie Turnbull moved Pat Stanton into defence for the last quarter of the match to lock the back door

1965: The 'Cowshed' is opened in the North Terrace

In 1965, Easter Road boasted a new covered enclosure in the North Terrace, the structure becoming affectionately known as the 'Cowshed'. The enclosure stood behind the goals at the end of the ground that now houses the Famous Five Stand.

Hamilton Academical arrived at Easter Road on Saturday 6th November 1965 as the first visiting team to play with the new addition at Easter Road. The formal opening of the enclosure was celebrated in style, Hibernian securing their biggest League victory to date by thumping Accies 11-1. It was a monumental day, with the goals spread between Eric Stevenson (3), Jimmy O'Rourke (2), Jim Scott (2), Peter Cormack, Davy Hogg, Joe Davis and an own goal. Stan Anderson netted the Accies consolation.

With the exception of the 'Cowshed', Easter Road Stadium went largely unchanged throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with further major development to the ground not coming until the 1980s.
I can recall that end being converted back to uncovered when the roof blew off in the early 1990s.

Celtic increased their lead when Lennox scored a header from a Johnstone corner in 17 minutes

The game erupted two minutes from half-time when following a poor challenge from Celtic winger John ‘Yogi’ Hughes HIBS’ right back Duncan was stretchered off with a broken leg and damaged ankle ligaments

Such was the severity and viciousness of Hughes’ tackle the game was held up for five minutes as it triggered fighting between rival supporters in the Cowshed behind the Celtic goal

Worth mentioning this incredible Scottish Cup tie

HIBS gave a debut to former Hearts striker John J Smith whom they had signed for the princely sum of £1000

Clyde took the lead but Rab Wall equalised with a cheeky back header James Malloy then had to leave the field of play through injury leaving HIBS down to 10 men Clyde duly raced into a 4-1 half-time lead

Malloy reappeared for the second half and when play recommenced Clyde looked to be content to hold what they had.

The Hibernians piled forward in numbers throwing caution to the wind with all the fighting spirit of the old Irish brigades as if defeat was out of the question

Rab Walls got his second and new boy JJ Smith got a double to tie the tie 4-4

With 15 minutes to go a beautiful head flick from JJ teed up Malloy to smash home the winner

The HIBS supporters were transformed from silent witnesses of doom into raving maniacs acclaiming their heroes with wild abandon Total strangers threw each other’s bunnets up in the air and clung around each other’s necks and wept for joy

That night in the taverns of Leith a new song was sung:

Wonder what the tune was for John Smith's song? Brilliant story!

    Hughes breaks Bobby Duncans leg

I still remember the battles in the cooshed, as a young teen being crushed down at the front and a big cop dragging me out to wander around the pitch, sure it was Ronnie Simpson trying to shepherd us off the park, he was told to f off on more than one occassion. it was a terrible tackle on a fantastic player with so much potential, Highes was always a big dirty sellick bassa. As ever they got away wi it. That crowd was in fact a little bit smaller than normal, they were usually over 40,000 and they did have a pretty good side, the bassa's.

Our 1st cup tie in the cup final 71/72 season was at Firhill in front of 21,000. I remember the terraces being rammed & Schaedler & Gordon both scored their 1st Hibs goals. Must have been 12k Hibbies there.
Firhill for thrills that day, we had a very good side and they were no bad as well, but big Gorden was majestic going on to score so many good goals and providing so many for J. O'Rourke great days. A wee bit o trouble there from memory good days watching a good team always full of hope going to away games in them days expecting to win.

Hughes's tackle on Bobby Duncan was a disgrace.

Here’s a “fact”relating to that game at Firhill that people might find “interesting “.Of the Thistle players that played that day 5 of them earned in total 68 caps for Scotland. This stat is a bit lopsided as Alan Rough acquired 53 of them.”Fascinating “eh !!!
