Anyone any experience or thoughts on renting out a property yourself without going through a letting agent?

I used to do it myself, but although you save the fee, it can be quite a lot of work.

Not only do you have to advertise and show the properties, your ability to do background checks etc is limited so you risk getting someone who won't take care of the place or who won't pay.

You're also responsible for any problems, getting the gas safety certificate, making sure the electricity is up to legal standards for rented properties and buying your landlord registration.

I started using a property management company a few years ago, even before I moved to York.
