In Sydney, what should I do?

Over in Sydney for the first time. Obviously going to do the obvious things. Is there any special things recommended and a central Hibby bar worth visiting?

Get the ferry to Manley Island. Have a drink in the harbour hotel.

Afterwards walk through the town to Shelley beach.

The Fortune of War is a busy boozer not too far from the Opera House. Google maps is your friend.

The surf clubs give you free membership if you have your driving license and they're generally a bit cheaper than the tourist places. Having said that, the Aus dollar is struggling so although it's not cheap it's not as dear as it could be.

There's a nice area in the centre called The Rocks and the museum of contemporary art there has a brilliant roof top restaurant.

The fishmarket is amazing and it's heaven if you like to eat fresh seafood.

Definitely get the hop on hop off bus, both routes. It'll take you everywhere.

Bondi Beach is on the tour bus route. Go feel the sand!! If you see an auld godger on the beach reading the paper version of a British newspaper he's probably a hun, but a decent one???

    Manley Beach is super too.

Go up Sidney Tower for views of the city.

    Meal in China Town.

Tour of the Opera House but that's maybe a bit obvious!

If you see a bar/boutique hotel called Harpoon Harry's would you mind popping in and finding out the name of the cider they sell on draft. It's as clear as water but a lovely taste :-) it's a good boozer.

Go to Watson's Bay, nice part of the waterside. Get a service bus to Bondi from Circular Quay, sit at the window and have a nose at the houses, gardens, swimming pools etc on the way.

If you fancy a day out get a service bus to Palm Beach where Home and Away is based. The bus trundles up the coast and you get to see many great beaches and wee towns along the way.

If you like stadiums have a look at the Sydney Football Stadium and Sydney Cricket Ground.

Like Hibbyradge I'd recommend a ferry trip to Manly from Circular Quay. Walk along the Corso to the beach. Plenty shops, pubs etc to keep you amused along the way. If you've time when you're there go left at the end of the Corso and head over the hill to Freshwater Beach.

If the weather is good it's worth spending a day taking the ferry to various places as it's relatively quick though relaxed and you get to appreciate how many coves and beaches there are.

Have a wander round the old houses on the North side of the Harbour Bridge.

It's a great city with lots to see and do and a great variety of food.

    Enjoy.

If you have the time there is a fantastic walk from Coogee bay up to Bondi, it’s around 6K and you can get busses at either end back to the city.

HibbyRadge mentioned The Rocks area. If you fancy a really cool meal got to a place called Phillips Foote. Just an awesome experience. It’s on George Street, just up from the Fortune of War.

Manly is great too, the wife and I slept and tanned our jet lag away 2 days in a row there.

Walked a lot today trying to get the stiffness off my legs and get the stepcount back up! Did the Sydney Opera tour and walked round the city and Darling Bay with a couple of pit stops.

Typical though, they have had a record breaking summer and it is due to rain for the rest of our stay!!!!
