Tragic loss for his family and friends and a Pars legend. Never get another player who would come close to McCathie, an inspirational figure at the heart of their defence.

Norrie McCathie was one of these players who was a rock for his club and it was truly a tragic death. I remember him having a decent game in the 1991 Skol Cup final against us - with Davie Moyes also in the Pars team.

If you look back at the game it's extraordinary how slow the pace of play is!

Played alongside Norrie at boys club level. A skinny wee laddie who struggled to get a game. He was the only one to make a living out the game from a decent boys club side despite most of us being on then S forms with clubs all over the country.

One of my best mates was a regular in the East Port and I had a good few sessions in there with him. He's a Raith ST holder and it was known that I'm a hibee. Norrie McCathie was really sound and he was certainly capable of giving as good as he got when it came to football craic (as was John Watson).
It's a pity that players being so linked with a specific club is becoming rarer and rarer.

This is exactly why I love the Hibernian community and .net in particular.
As a spotty sixteen year old, full of fighting juice & midnight runners, I was too young, stupid and/or high on goofballs to appreciate:
- How he inspired Dunfermline Athletic in his role as Captain
- The tragic circumstances surrounding his death.
- His unwavering commitment to his family, team and his community.
The big man rightly has a stand named after him @ East End Park and is fondly remembered by fans of Scottish football the world over.
RIP Norrie.

Was he not found dead with another woman by his then 7 months pregnant girlfriend?

I worked in Fife at the time of his death and the grief run deep amongst them, not only Pars. He certainly seemed like a good fellah to be around, warts and all.

My pars pal was devestated when he died. Proper cult hero at that club
