Germany and Austria have quite strict rules on Sunday Trading as well. I think there's only a few Sundays in the year when every shop can be open but some regions have less of those days than others (e.g. Bavaria).
They have the same rule on Truck Drivers (mentioned in an earlier post) as well.
I'm with Scouse on this one, as it must be a nightmare for people with kids having to work most weekends. OK. it's an inconvenience for people having less days for shopping but I'm sure they'd cope,

In Poland shops can only open on the last Sunday of the month although there are exemptions for small owner operated convenience stores.
