    T20 cricket

The t20 World Cup qualifier started in the UAE yesterday. Scotland managed to lose to Singapore by 2 runs in a bit of a shock. 6 teams go through and I think Singapore beat a full member not long ago but not an ideal start. Currently 36/1 after 5 against Kenya, Coetzer our but Munsey is the man in form and he is 19 off 13.

Scotland won by 31 runs in the end despite a scratchy batting performance and a poor start in bowling. Tougher tests to come but at least likely to get to the (somewhat complicated) playoffs.

Scratchy start again, 109/4 in the 17th. PNG are a better team than Kenya though.

Scotland have scraped a win over PNG by 4 runs. Saved by a couple of bursts by the bowlers.

Namibia and Bermuda to come this week, two games they should win and should see them into the playoffs. They then play the Netherlands which will be the toughest game of the group. Top of the group qualifies automatically but the defeat to Singapore means I can’t see Scotland passing the Dutch on net run rate, even if they beat them on Sunday.

Scotland lost to Namibia by 24 runs, a shocking result really. Need to beat Bermuda on Thursday now and should still make the playoffs. 2nd and 3rd in the groups get 2 shots at qualifying from the playoffs while 4th gets one shot in an eliminator and can’t make the semi finals of the tournament.

Papua New Guinea with a shock win over the Dutch this morning, meaning a big win for Scotland over Bermuda this afternoon will mean top spot is back on. Both Scotland’s remaining group games are on sky sports, Bermuda today and the Dutch on Sunday.

Tom Sole, who’s been doing well so far, has been banned from bowling, however, due to a suspect action.

Yep, Scotland win by 46 runs. Top spot still looks ambitious but well placed for a top 3 spot now. Ireland are in danger of going out in the other group.

Indeed, although they have been found beatable today too. It’s live on sky sports on Sunday morning, 10:10 start. I’m guessing there might be a few on here with an interest.

Namibia have beaten Singapore today, which puts them 2 points clear of Scotland and a higher net run rate. To have any chance of a top 3 finish, and 2 shots at qualification, Scotland have to beat the Dutch tomorrow. A defeat opens the door for Kenya to overtake on net run rate and eliminate Scotland all together.

Ooft. On holiday at the moment and the schedule doesn’t allow for watching the game. Tough tie by any reckoning.

Papua New Guinea have beaten Kenya, so unless the Dutch get a freakishly big win over Scotland they will qualify for the World Cup. Scotland are guaranteed at least fourth but A win means they will get 2 shots at qualification, NRR dependant.

Finishing 4th, although keeping qualification alive, eliminates you from winning the qualifier tournament.

Terrible decision sees Macleod out lbw. 3 down now and the platform is lost.

Terrible shot by cross, guided a cut straight to a short 3rd man. 108-7, very little chance of getting into the top 3 now.

Scotland make 130/8. If the Dutch chase it in 12.3 overs they will top the group. If Scotland bowl them out for under 75 they will go to 3rd, under 65 to go to 2nd.

79-3 after 9.1, Scotland finish 4th. 52 off 21 for the Dutch to go top.

101-6 off 12.3, so Papua New Guinea have qualified automatically.

The wicket that fell on that ball was a stumping which does not look like a good decision at all from the umpire...

The Dutch have won by 4 wickets with 3 overs remaining. I think Scotland’s playoff is on Wednesday.

Netherlands have hammered UAE by 8 wickets. So it’s Scotland v UAE at 10.10 tomorrow UK time.

I believe the Scotland game is on Sky tomorrow. Unfortunately I'll be at work, might try to catch the climax over lunch.

Namibia have also qualified this afternoon to join the group winners Ireland and Papua New Guinea. Final 2 spots will be decided by Scotland v UAE and Hong Kong v Oman. The winners will then face off for 5th place while the 4 teams above will contest semi finals and the final of the qualifying tournament.

I also found out today that 12 teams will take part in the main part of the tournament next year, up from 10 before. That means 4 teams will qualify from the lowest ranked of the teams automatically through via the rankings and the 6 teams qualified from this tournament. A really good opportunity for all 6 teams and if Scotland don't make it it will be a massive set back to them.

Scotland won by 90 runs and have qualified for the T20 World Cup in a year’s time. They play the winners of Hong Kong v Oman in the 5th place Play-off tomorrow.
