Utterly despicable behaviour, but the irony of southern European Slavs giving Nazi salutes is obviously lost on them.

If only history was that simple. Hitler conveniently did not categorise the Bulgarians as Slavic. He was more interested in clearing the Eastern Slavs from lands which he wanted for German expansion. The Bulgarians fought with the Nazis and gained territory from neighbours including Greece.
Neo-nazis in Bulgaria have no problem with the salute and for them there is no irony.
