    New Coventry Kit

Must admit to loving this kit. For those of a certain vintage maybe, but a great tribute to a great scene that grew out of the city back in the 70’s/early 80’s.

Beautiful kit. Iconic piece of music history on a footie top.

Certainly better than the brown one they had at the time. One of the worst ever strips.

Cracking kit and selling like hot cakes, apparently. Kinda tempted myself...

It’s tremendous. It will appeal to a lot of punks, skins and herberts!

That's a class shirt! Would feel weird buying it not being a Conventry fan.

Coventry FC always seemed a deeply uncool outfit to me, despite sharing their city with a very cool music scene.

Hibs, Hearts, Man City and Coventry... 1979(?)

Over the course of three game days, you got two games for the price of one (each played immediately after the previous match was finished). I think it was ER on two successive Saturdays with Tynecastle on the Wednesday between.

The police would have a meltdown if anybody suggested that now

    RE: My above post.

I did a bit of digging and apparently it was called the 'Skol Festival Trophy'.

    Here's the results

    August 4th - Easter Road
    Hibernian 2 - Hearts 1
    Coventry 3 - Manchester City 1

    August 6th - Tynecastle
    Hibernian 1 - Manchester City 1
    Hearts 1 - Coventry 3

    August 8th Easter Road
    Hearts 1 - Manchester City 1
    Hibernian 0 - Coventry 0

Coventry City (5pts) were the winners, with Hibs (4pts) in 2nd place.

Hearts were last, with 1 point

Sounds decent - would be good to get something like that on the go again.

Malcolm Allison (or was it John Bond) had been given a massive budget, and made some big money signings, all of whom fell flat on their arse at the tournament, and in the coming season.

Edit: it was Big Mal, the player I had most in mind was Steve MacKenzie, who had never played a game at the highest level. He moved from Palace for £250,000 which was still a big fee at the time.

Kevin Reeves is another that springs to mind.

Hated the 2-Tone music so cannot confess to liking any strip that has links to it!

I have bought a few random shirts in the past, just because I liked them.

    That Coventry effort is great.

I was punk but embraced all of it including the fancy mods and their hush puppies. Loved 2tone and the Oi! / skin stuff that came on the back of it, most of it well meaning, some of it misunderstood but a lot of it dodgy to say the least. Still have a punk brain (ergo mouth) if not the lifestyle, and it doesn’t half get me into trouble 40 odd years on.

I fear I’m in the minority here but I don’t like that at all. Looks like something worn in the Tour De France.
Each to their own though, ‘tis only a fitba top.
