    That age old argument where people expected him to be Scotland’s version of Gareth Bale. He was a sitting midfielder and extremely good at it, which allowed others to play, unfortunately at Scotland we don’t have those ‘others’ who will win us games, at United he did. I’m sure SAF would wholeheartedly disagree that he was overrated.

    For a guy who suffered from a serious illness and then played football for years after major (and life-changing) surgery, he’s done okay. A much better example than 99% of professional football players.

    Van Gaal made him vice captain when he went in so he must of had a bit about him off the pitch as well as on it

    I remember when people thought Steve Archibald was over rated then he came to Hibs and stood out like sore thumb, miles better that all the other players.

    FWIW. I'd take him at ER in a heartbeat, he'd be our best midfielder, captain and leader instantly. Eloquent, affable young man, who I'll follow the rest of his post-playing career with great interest.

    Rather than being overrated, Fletcher should be the example all Scottish players try to emulate. A player that got every inch of potential out of himself and had the career, with the medals to show for it, only a select few can match.

    There’s a year between them, I’d suggest Riordan had more natural talent than Fletcher, but look at how both careers panned out.

    Exactly. Having only seen him in televised matches, seeing him ‘live’ was a revelation. His work off the ball and his positioning were outstanding. Unfortunately, he was about two moves ahead of his teammates!

    He would obviously have good contacts at Man Utd but I doubt it would be a realistic proposition. He would have to play for free like Efe for luv of the club, apparently.

    The overrated nonsense is symptomatic of a moaning and never satisfied part of the Hibs support that can turn poisonous creating a fear factor for our players.
