Hallberg and Naismith - can they make a difference?

Arguably our weakest areas since the start of the season have been midfield - where we have looked unbalanced - and full back - where we have been beset by injuries. I'll admit that I know little about either player but Hallberg looks like he might be able to offer something different to the midfield and Naismith provides more experienced specialist cover at fullback than did Mackie who has departed on loan.

A couple of players can be enough to turn a team around if they're the right players - so is there cause for optimism that Hallberg and Naismith could provide the necessary impetus to turn around our season??? (Nae pressure Melker and Jason )

We need a sitting midfielder. As you've said though, hopefully offers something alternative.

Watching Hibs this season we are too weak in midfield and lack a ball winner. As bad as Hearts are there is a danger that they will boss us in midfield in a couple of weeks. We all know how Levein sets up his anti football teams.I hope i am wrong.

They might well boss us in midfield. Although we might boss then. Let’s remember that their midfield in their last game against Hamilton was Andy Irving, Glenn Whelan, Sean Clare, Mulraney and somebody Henderson. By all accounts they were chasing shadows. I can’t say I’m that worried about them bossing us.

The manager thought going 2 up front with ten men against Rangers was a good idea.

A lot of the goals we've conceded have come from the right back position. Hopefully having a player there who isn't lacking in pace, or likely to get injured at some point during the game, is hopefully a huge step forward towards settling the defence.

They’ll have to is the simple answer. What we have otherwise just isn’t working.

Yup. Hallberg is an unknown so he’s a wait and see. From what people say about Naismith though he sounds like he’ll most definitely be an improvement, even if it’s just because he can stay fit and SDG can’t.

Don't know much about Hallberg other than a YouTube promotional video which could make my granny look good but having seen Naismith in the flesh i know he's a very good player and one I'd have been delighted to sign from St Mirren or County

Let's face it, they can't be any worse than what we have

Hope so. Delighted we have sorted RB though as it’s been a weak link over the past 10 months. Swedish dude could end up brilliant or pap, let’s hope he hits the ground running.

Naismith is a very good player - no question.

I think Hallberg will replace Mallan - who has been invisible this season..

A midfield two of Vela and Hallberg MIGHT cut it.

Naismith will more than likely be our first choice RB this season.

Hallberg, from his video, seems to be more of an attacking midfielder.

Can see Mallan being dropped and rightly so, he's been utter guff this season so far.

Hopefully Hallberg will bring the range of passing, energy and forward drive we've missed since Mcginn

We already have the players to beat the likes of st johnstone n motherwell, these two lads hopefully strengthen that. But if you have a manager who can't get the engine running then having better players means hee haw.

  23. #22
Naismith will shore up right back position but the big question is whether Hallberg can stiffen up and give legs to our struggling midfield.
I think he has to replace Mallan but like most on here I don't know much about Hallberg's style of play.

I fully expect Hallberg to start ahead of the ineffective Mallan on Saturday.

We could do worse than throwing Naismith in as well, is he any good going forward as well?

Just bung them on. They can't be worse.

  27. #26
Don`t think there`s any doubt barring injury they`ll both be playing.

  28. #27
I genuinely believe Naismith will make a huge difference to this squad - pace and aggression

Me too, and it should be.

I'm worried that Heckingbottom sees it as Hallberg for Allan though.

    Marciano
    Naismith
    Porteous
    Hanlon
    Stevenson
    Middleton
    Hallberg
    Vela
    Allan
    Horgan
    Kamberi

This for me just now. Boyle starts when fit. Doidge starts when the game calls for 2 up - in for Middleton or Horgan depending on form. Porteous and Hallberg will only get match fit with matches.

A fully fit Gray and MacGreor gives a selection headache.

Not writing off Jackson or James just yet but they will have to show something to get in.

Mallan and Slivka both have to up their games and harsh on Whittaker who has been decent this season.

Also, I think Doidge can come good but Shaw at least impacted the game as a sub so he needs to start scoring to keep his place in the pecking order.

Can't think of anyone else outwith the youth players.

All of course assuming Naismith and Hallberg improve the starting 11.

Really hope we've unearthed a gem in Hallberg. We just need someone in the middle to make everything click.

Have either of them done their badges? Could probably improve us as manager(s).
