Glad to see that our decision to reject a corporate sponsor has been reinforced by the inclusion of some charitable causes on our media backdrops.

One of those is certainly a direct opposition to the theme of gambling and football integration. Personally, I think this is a fantastic move for the club and we will be seeing more clubs adopt a similar approach going forward. It's about bloody time too.

Agreed - it's welcome, overdue and encouraging. I'd also like to see us (and other clubs) take a more pro-active Fairtrade stance. I've no idea about Macron but some sports gear manufacturers have a dreadful record in sourcing from almost slave-labour conditions in developing countries, often involving kids. Equipment is the same with some ball production being shocking. I'm sure there will be someone who says it doesn't matter but I'm very pleased to see us take a more ethical stance on any of these matters, including those you mention.

missing out on revenue should never be encouraged, it is a bad decision imo. not going with a sponsor has cost us money, it does not matter how anyone tries to spin it.


Sourcing strips and using fair trade products is a great idea and would be very noble, likewise hooking up with Greenpeace or running campaigns to plant more trees would promote a positive environment and links to our colour pretty well. We should always aim to have positive advertising and sponsorships, focusing on ones that make people feel good. I am all for supporting good causes but I think football clubs should avoid reminding people the world is full of pain and suffering because it kinda creates negativity. I would much rather have a paddy power advert that makes me laugh than a gamble aware one that makes me feel like I am doing something wrong by having a bet!

IMO we can not take the moral high ground and say we wont have a gambling company sponsoring us because gambling is bad while having a bill board inside the stadium promoting gin.

Children with Cancer UK have probably one of the worst logos I’ve ever seen, but their marketing team must be doing something right getting Sunderland and Charlton to put them on their shirts and us to advertise them too.

that is some creative editing job! It did make your condescending comment look pretty smart though!

anyway, I suppose it depends on how you view the world, I don't see advertisements as evil, nor do I think they are distracting me from a world that is ablaze, as your response hints at. People just like preaching and telling others how they should live their life and patting yourself on the back for
doing a good deed is great, but if you are in need of all the extra income you can get and could have received a months wages for doing a similar task,
imo makes going ahead with it kinda foolish.
