    Really?
What could we have done to substantially improve it with what’s available?

Replace our weakest player in the squad with our new signing and play Mackie in his natural position. Someone explain what Whittaker’s strengths are?

    Has to be injury!!

Ample opportunity to play James at left back during the pre season games.

    Mackie deserves a chance
He’s not injured and he has had a chance but not really taken it imo

I'd have went Daz before Jackson and Mackie before Whitts but it is a balanced side and a balanced bench too. Only thing that is missing is some pace off teh bench and a left sided left back both of which we have but are missing due to injury. I hope he plays Whits at left back

In response to few comments. Id have doidge. Mcgregor and mackie in for hanlon. James and Newell

To be fair, mackie’s been given almost all pre season to make the left back spot his own. Natural or not, he’s not taken it.

Whittaker has been much better than Mackie pre season but that doesnt suit some posters Agenda on here...the Anti-Whittaker brigade are out in force again. Am by no means his biggest fan but he is nowhere near as bad as some make out on here and in social media

Doidge hasn’t done anything to warrant a starting place imo. The other 2 you could make an argument for but also think James has been good at RB

Pity hanlon is playing rather than the rock mcgregor. Otherwise a good selection.

I think the argument would be that Whittaker isnt going to get any better as a player. Mackie needs to play games to improve and learn what he needs to develop. Thats the reason id sooner see Mackie play before Whittaker.

One thing worries me and that's the amount of middle aged men cutting about in shorts.

2 footed, lovely touch, great at long passes/switching play, experienced, calm and obviously trusted by the manager. Not our weakest player at all.

    Good touch.
    Great range of passing.
    2 footed.
Not as quick as he was but not slow.
Experienced player who understands his position.
Can move into other positions if required.
    Good shot on him.
Should be strong enough defensively to cope with St Mirren.
Fairly tall, decent in the air.
Fit lad, should be able to last 90.
Strong mentality, experience can see him work through adversity into a better performance.
Takes scapegoat attention away from other players.
