if you are happy that Hibs are looking at this market to take the club forward into the top 4 then so be it, I’ll make no apology to say that it’s extremely disappointing.
I was just watching our 5-1 league cup win over Killie the other day. 2 free transfers, Hogg & Murphy & 2 very lower league signings in Jones & Sproule from Grimsby & Institute respectively. They all helped take our club forward.

Was watching the game and thinking are any of these young players going to break through to Hibs 1st team.

Was also thinking would many Hibs players get into the Newcastle u23 team plus would any of the Newcastle players be good enough to come on loan.

Anyone who watched have any views ?

EEN reckons second trialist was Will Donkin, ex-Crystal Palace, 13 caps for Taiwan national team.

    Story here
I once heard a story that he keeps missing chances cos his boots keep coming undone. Apparently he can only Taiwan.

Jonny Smith looks decent. We still need a more direct, speedy winger IMO and he seems to fit the bill. Lefty too, which is good for balance.

Good game today, really enjoyed it. Think Hibs decision to play against these sort of sides instead of reserve team sides will pay dividends
Hibs set up 433 and enjoyed most of the early pressure. Newcastle were sitting in and trying to hit Hibs on the break
Hibs almost scored in the 1st minute, United goalie had great save from Murray
United goal came from a quick attack, ball was put behind our centre backs and the quick forward slotted home

Hibs goal came from a Newcastle corner, ball got cleared and the trialist and Murray chased it. Thought out no 7 had waited too long, but tucked it away nicely

The 2nd half was more even, and United scored from a scrappy goal from Hibs point of view. Newcastle also hit the post, but Hibs had a few chances late on, Hammer and Mackie put in a few great crosses, but we just couldn’t get on the end of them. Hammer in particular was giving their right back a hard time, Oli was unlucky to get on the end of things

For quite a few of these lads it was their 1st match of the season. Hibs will also be happy with the 3 new signings first performance in a Hibs shirt.
Also managed to get 3 young lads on too in the 2nd half, Gullantes,Yeats (Scholesy) and 15 year old Jayden Fairley, all 3 did well!

A few tasty challenges too, which could have possibly resulted in cards at senior level, but Ref kept his cards in his pocket

Thought Paddy Martin was fantastic today, has put his Arbroath performance behind him and moved on. He’s a good goalie!

Development teams next game is against Linlithgow Rose away, Wednesday 24th July, 7.30pm ko

    Get along if you can

It would be great if this spiffing Will fellow came on to score a hat-trick against Hearts and the game was forever more known as the Donkin derby.

Glad that the Arbroath game hasn't affected Martin.

Got to think games like this will be of more benefit than winning 7-0 against Dundee Utd or whoever it was last season

Sam Cosgrove came from Carlisle, played for some other lower non league clubs prior to that. Hasn't done all that bad

Spoke to a pal who follows tranmere. The lad is seen as being too lightweight to make it at a higher level.

Funny that, from what I've seen on twitter most of them want him back. At a higher level in league 1.

Thanks for that Billy. Was disappointed not to make today but hoping to make some dev games again this season. Any word whether our games will still mainly be at Oriam?

Looks like 433 is going to be our custom formation right through the levels. Glad the keeper bounced back well.

Apparently Smith was hailed as "the new Gareth Bale", when he broke through at first.

    Sounds ominous.

As long as it's not the Gambian Bale we'll be fine

Wheat Hound, I didn’t ask, but not sure we’ll need the Oriam other than for the Reserve League Cup games. Most of the home friendlies will be played at East Mains I’d have thought

    4-3-3 attacking
    4-5-1 defending

The saves were outstanding by Martin today but I do worry he's too small. Yes you can name me small keepers who have been successful but I'm just surprised we don't have more keepers on the books.

At the weekend we couldn't name a full bench ?

Then today Combe is on the bench ?!

Dabrowski played for Cowdenbeath on Saturday, and will play again tomorrow which is why he wasn't involved today. And given you're only permitted 3 subs in the League Cup, surely six subs was more than enough on Saturday?

Four 'keepers taking part in first-team training sessions - Marciano, Maxwell, Dabrowski and Martin. More than enough IMO.

I was pretty impressed by the ginger boy in midfield for us, number 12 (Yeats?). Looks a really tidy player.

Steven Bradley looks like he’s got really quick feet when he’s got the ball too.

Number 7 looked decent too, very quick.

I also thought their number 4 in midfield was very good.
