We got the Virgin Train from Glasgow to Carlisle yesterday, I think I might have had excessively high expectations as I generally like Virgin products but I have to say it was brutal. Filthy, cramped, unhelpful staff. Major disappointment.

The virgin trains I've had in the between London and Manchester/ Birmingham have generally been absolutely outstanding.
Anything that comes this far North seems to be much poorer.

Never had any problems heading that way to Liverpool over several years with Virgin trains, always been great.

The LNER service (which I thought was a rebranded Virgin trains, but not sure if they changed the non-london or north-east side?) is usually pretty good once on. Better than the cross rail alternative.
They are almost always late though. Which I think applies to all trains.Mon the Hibs.

Sounds like we had an unlucky bad experience rather than that being the norm.
