Bands/artists that you regret not paying attention to

Deliberately or not, which bands do you wish you'd known earlier.

I ask this because the Stone Roses completely passed me by, until tonight.

I've just listened to their first album and I don't understand why I don't own it.

The Who, Talking Heads, Britpop, funk, all rolled into one.

Anyone you've discovered recently that puts you to shame?

Didn't discover Elliott Smith & My Morning Jacket until the last 2-3 years.

Hopefully more undiscovered gems out there as I'm running out of music!

For Me, Jill Scott - along with Gregory Porter , must be up there with the best voices of their generation

Beth Hart...what a voice. Her work with Joe Bonamassa is outstanding.

The Stone Roses only did two great albums and fizzled out a bit.

Ian Brown has prospered though. Last album Ripples was well up to standard.

I was almost 30 before I paid much attention to the Rolling Stones.

I saw her at Leeds last year. She was very good.

Stone Roses The Who, Talking Heads
Great thread. All personal filters IMHO. Roses complete meh for me compared to the two they are compared to. For me Rory Gallagher & Stevie Ray Vaughan. Knocked out by the range and their playing. Both also came over as great people.

The Stone Roses' first album is up there with the best of them, but the fact that they have spent so much of their existence pissing about for one reason or another (when other bands have released bucket loads of music) counts against them in a big way.

slightly off topic;but...I had the chance to go and see Prince at the Hydro, a mate had a spare ticket. His first gig in Glasgow in 19 years.

I couldn't get the time off work. He died 11 months later. Absolutely gutted.

Sorry to hear that. Was he a good mate?

I’ll get my coat, as they used to say 😄

Not sure I agree and would maybe even argue the opposite. I think the majority of bands from the same 'ilk' as the Roses probably released a maximum of 2 really strong albums that define them anyway.

Amy Winehouse for me. Only 'got it' after she sadly passed.
