Thread: Scott Allan

    Scott Allan

Wonder if he’ll get a look on at Celtic now? Guessing that there is no chance that the pre-contract could be ripped up?

I think he will start tomorrow as a holding midfielder knowing the HC.

Wouldn't think do although these things can be torn up, its happened before. SA wants to come to Hibs and with Lennon only there until the end of the season I can't see him doing a U turn

It wasn’t torn up. Done my research today. It’s legally binding.

Ross County bought him back. They had to pay a small fee.

In the event of this happening, Celtic will get away with a nominal compensation payment, which will be a drop in the ocean for them.

Not sure what you’re seeing here. Both clubs had to reach an agreement to allow Brittain to stay at RC. The personal circumstances involved were also nothing like the Scott Allan situation.

McGregor, Christie, Rogic and Ntcham all injured. Talk of Allan being back in their squad tomorrow.

Did tommy Wright not make a big deal of pre contracts not being legally binding in Scotland ?

I’m sure Allan will still come

    What will be will be.
Surely Lenny would have to be off on one to try to cancel the move. If any change would surely need to be instigated by Allan. He’s bid he tie surely needs of cut loose to maintain credibility. It I appreciate money talks.

Ian McColl said in his statement about Shankland during January that pre contracts are worthless. Won't matter to us because Scott Allan has played about 1 reserve game since the summer so it would be unlikely to say the least if he'd be viewed as match fit whether Lennon famcied playing him or not and he's so far down the pecking order anyway

What is he basing that on? Pre contracts are not worthless, they are as binding as any contract.

Surely it would depend on any clauses written into them? For example, why would a club not want to insert a clause cancelling the agreement if the player was to sustain a career threatening injury before his old contract wound down?

Yes I did. They are not recognised by the SFA. That is the player will only be registered with the SFA when they sign the actual contract after their previous contract with their current club runs out. But a pre-contract is a legal document which is enforceable.

I wonder if Scott Allan is a Hecky type of player, perhaps he wants a different type on his midfield?

  28. #27
There's a huge gulf in quality between Hibs and Celtic midfield. Just because NL thought SA would be good for Hibs, doesn't all of a sudden make him good enough for Celtic. They operate on an entirely different level to Hibs. NL's appointment won't make a jot of difference.

  29. #28
I doubt it. Lennon wants to get the Celtic fans on side. Playing a player who hasn't played any first team football this season in a big game wouldn't do him any favours

Think we’re getting carried away here. The guy has is played a handful of games in 3 years for Celtic. They’d look a bit daft going to the effort of him forcing a cancellation of contract with Hibs, paying Hibs a fee and giving him a new contract. Their fans will be expecting his wage to go on a player that they think will improve them - not a guy that couldn’t get on their bench for 3 years.

We're getting into semantics here, technically Ross County didn't pay a fee to St Johnstone you are correct, but as part of the agreement to get the pre-contract cancelled, Roy McGregor made a donation to St Johnstone's community fund. It may not strictly have been a fee, but either way they had to be compensated to get them to cancel the agreement and not pursue it with the SFA.
