Thread: Eckiethump

    Eckiethump

Since the new manager was announced I can't help thinking about the Goodies Northern sketch from many years ago. Would it be offensive to use Eckiethump instead of Heckingbottom when referring to the manager? Would it be easier to create a song around?

    Yes, it would be offensive.

Eckythump is a Lancastrian martial art. Might not be appreciated on the other side of the great northern divide

I had the same thought, especially since he's from Yorkshire.

My first thought too, not sure if it's ideal material for a chant. Could be a banger if someone could figure it out though.

OP went over my head - I'm guessing I'm too young

Looks like I'm the only one who doesn't get any of this. Do you have to have spent time in Yorkshire to understand the joke?

I'd forgotten it was a Lancastrian martial art - brilliant. He is perhaps not old enough to know that so we could just keep it quiet. I hope he is bringing a bit of Yorkshire Eckythump with him.

You probably have to be at least in your mid 40s.

If you are in your seventies you are likely to remember, in your sixties you will probably remember. Younger than that, you may have caught the repeats. Mid-forties, probably no chance.

They'll have their own version of it no doubt. Just change the black pudding to a Yorkshire one...

I was going to post that myself. A greater divide than between Edinburgh and Glasgow and being part Lancastrian and East Lancashire at that I would be very concerned at letting a Yorkshire man into the secrets. And in any case as the saying goes
'if tha were born i' Yorkshire, Lancashire fowk are enemy. If tha were born in Lancashire, Yorkshire fowk are enemy. If tha were born onyweer else, it's noaan, o' tha business. So theer! '

    Came up trumps
    Heckythump
Took a cab all the way up to Leith and down Easter Road

    Barnsley man
    With a plan
Of how to play and defeat Levein's Jambos

    Front to back
    All attack
Darryl Horgan, Stevie Mallan, Oli Shaw and Super Flo

    Every day
    Gonna pay
If you get the wrong side of Big Daz or Sir David Gray

    (then the riff)

I seem to remember a song that went with this. Must have been on TOTP in the day. Watch out to anyone searching for it. Could disturb. I wouldn't want to see it again...

They made the charts with a song called the Funky Gibbon.

I know I'm showing my age.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!"
