[QUOTE=Onion;5710516]Perhaps. It's certainly a risky appointment, given his mixed managerial record, lack of knowledge of the Scottish game, and being out of a job for so long. Yes I agree. PH and RS both being out of work and with fairly limited Managerial experience under their belts, are unlikely to have been as demanding as other more established candidates. This looks very much like a budget driven appointment, rather than PH being the outstanding candidate for the job. Can't get enthusiastic and not confident of success, but time will tell. I'd be delighted to be proven wrong.

This guy was long-term unemployed, kicked out of his last job and there were few signs of clubs knocking his door down with offers. Fact is we've no clue how this guy will do at Hibs. Those thinking he'll bomb are just as right as those who are convinced he'll do well at this stage. We have a decent squad of players at ER, so we'll find out before the end of the season if he's up to the job, unlike most others before him who have had a rebuilding job to do. Really hope he does well, but he's got little time to prove himself.
Don't disagree with any of that. It's probably a bigger risk for him than us if it doesn't work out.

You won't find me disrespecting any reasonable opinion.

Heckingbottom isn't just unknown amongst the Hibs support. Very few people outside of Barnsley and Leeds will know much of him. It's totally understandable, therefore, that a lot of fans are reserving judgement. It's a bold appointment by the board; it would have been safer for them to go for a more established name.
My point is he isn't unknown now.

Who would be your choice as established name?

After the last few months, I'd suggest there's a major rebuild required. The team at the moment is in the garage. The Fiat 500 needs to be returned to an Audi A3 Sports.

True, it's something of a risk. I really think he needs to get off to a good start.
Get off to a good start? And continue the successful season from our last manager?

He needs to stabilise us first. Take stock, and prepare for next season.

He is unknown to many; certainly not a safe bet as someone guaranteed to excite the support, as, for example, Lennon was. Heckingbottom is more of a gamble, though that doesn't mean he's a bad appointment. Only time will tell.

Guys with small cars obviously have no such worries

I have been watching hibs since the Tornados. I remain underwhelmed by this appointment and disappointed with the whole Lennon situation. For example we have a home tie against celtic coming up. Last time they came to ER we beat them well, next game at Celtic Park, toothless with not one shot on target. Newbees like me can recall long periods when we took nothing and almost expected nothing from games against Celtic. I would hate to see a return to that.
I will get behind Heckinbottom and the team, but I reserve the right to be underwhelmed
I was at the previous game at Celtc park. We played 3 at the back, one of which was Louie, brought Darren back in & left Porteous out. We tore up our game plan after 25 minutes, Lennon ripped Milligan a new one in public & we lost 4-2, going on 10 -2
I would hate to see us return to that.

Exactly - who knows? - so why moan about it then?

No one is ever a safe bet. Pep Guardiola could rock up at East Mains tomorrow and fail.

Lennon excited the support. He excited me.

But look at the table, look at our squad, look at the morale of our team.

Not being funny. And I'm saying this as an advocate of Lennon for 2 years. But he ran out if ideas. People need to move on.

I think a masters degree shows a level of commitment and intelligence to complete that course which IMO many other coaches would struggle to complete. No way IMO can it be seen as anything other than a positive. It also provides a much higher level of understanding in the field he is working in.
    Totally agree, Jim.

    This 100%

I need to stress I'm throwing out an olive branch to the Lennonites. I was a fan. But long enough in the tooth to move on. Genuinely excited about our new management team.

I tried that last Saturday. I wouldn't wish it on Levain.

Talking of whom, Heckingbottom already has as many winner's medals in Scotland as he does.

I've got my usual cautious optimism for our new manager but reckon I won't have a proper opinion until about September which will be long enough for him to have evaluated the existing squad, made his preferred changes in the transfer window, had the summer to work with the revised squad and several games to settle everything in.
Mature, sensible signature required for responsible position. Good prospects for the right candidate. Apply within.

Hoping for a big vocal support on Saturday. Couldn't have put it better myself.

It's 'our' team. Let's give them every bit of support we can.

I agree we need to move on. Not sure he or the board ran out of ideas. What I will say is Lennon had me believing we could beat anyone. I hope that comes again.

He's been out of a job since June, it's hardly like we've plucked him from obscurity. Adam Hammill - someone who actually knows Heckingbottom - says he's turned down a number of jobs in England during that time.

Not something you've levelled necessarily but I find it bizarre that people look at a manager and his assistant who were last in charge at Leeds and Sunderland respectively and think this is somehow the cheap option! Bonkers.

Lots of people in Scotland won't have heard of him. Says more about their knowledge of football than it does about Heckingbottom.

Bet you about 3 quarters of this forum couldn't tell me the current Barnsley manager without cheating.

It's nothing to do with their knowledge of football, just another patronising post to file with the others.

Why would anyone on this forum even bother about the current Barnsley manager?

It's a Hibs forum. We are all focused on Hibs and a new beginning!

    Roll on Saturday...
