Already posts in the twitter world sayings it's a Westminster conspiracy.

His arrest should have no bearing on the Independance cause, but I can imagine it absolutely will.

Police Scotland confirmed that a 64-year-old man had been charged and said a report would be sent to prosecutors.
It is not yet known what Mr Salmond has been charged with. Police had been investigating following a Scottish government inquiry into complaints of sexual harassment, which he denies.
Mr Salmond, who was first minister from 2007 to 2014, could appear in court later on Thursday.
The news comes two weeks since Mr Salmond was at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, where the Scottish government conceded that its internal investigation of the complaints against him was flawed.

    .

A reminder to all Twitter users: this case is now defined as "active" under the Contempt of Court Act 1981. Publication of information prejudicial to an accused will be treated as contempt of court. This includes Twitter and other social media as well as newspapers/TV/radio.

We obviously don't know what he's charged with (yet), but for me Sturgeon's backing of the permanent secretary Salmond won the court case as well as making reference to the effect on the 2 alleged victims (when she didn't have to) indicated that she knew the affair was far from over.

Nothing in that link says sexual assault though, it mentions
The details of the claims of sexual harassment and who made them have not been officially released

Sexual harassment does not necessarily involve sexual assault.

What else would the charge be, based on The Daily Record details quoted?

Not so sure his arrest will in and of itself. Crackpots claiming it's the deep state after him might though.

btw, the gleeful Unionists who are over the moon at this like its Christmas all over again are hardly covering themselves in glory either. Reminds me of the strain of Sevconians who delight in using paedophilia scandals to smear the name of Jock Stein. Of course, there's probably a significant overlap between those groups.

Apart from the case not going to court, are the twitterati suggesting he was in contempt of the court case he won against the Scottish Parliament?

If this had been the ex leader of any of the other parties who donít have a policy of supporting Independence Twitter ,Facebook etc would have been full of smug Better Together? style comments and worse. There are plenty on both sides who could not give a toss about the women in this case who have made the allegations. Absolutely nobody, no matter what the outcome is, will come out of this as a winner.

If it had been Boris Johnston or Rees Mogg the thread would already be at about 10 pages of you and R7 tearing into them followed by those grinning emojis and links to every news story covering it

Should have taken his seat in the House of Lords. He would have been well protected there.

Maybe, although there was a few people saying he was arrested for contempt of court but I think that is unlikely and he has been charged with the other alleged offences.

It was on Twitter so probably says it all.

I take it the R7, you've mentioned in this post is me?

I've made my feelings quite clear on this matter on a number of occasions. The cases should be left to run their course, then all and sundry can bail in.

If you could now tell me what I want for my tea, as I'm starving. I'd be obliged.

Posting about a forum member without them being involved on the thread is bad form, old boy. 😆

If it's not me you were referring to, I most humbly apologise.

Agreed. And my post was intended to point out there are a ton of mentalists on both sides of the twitterati. Apols if that wasn't clear.

Interesting. So you are either speculating that I would be gleefully wallowing in discomfort due to allegations of abuse with no respect for the victims of that abuse or you are accusing me of having done so. If the latter, given history is searchable, put up or shut up (and apologise).
