Phil Sinclair was a stand out teacher though. We used to call him Tom Selleck, the Magnum P I guy!

Was that because he drove a Ferrari or a doppelgänger for Rod’s tache?

Were we not close to signing Ronnie Rosenthal before he signed for Liverpool?

We bid for him and missed out because Crewe kept upping the price due to Villa's interest.

So we signed Gareth Evans instead. Decent player, but not in Platt's class.
Mature, sensible signature required for responsible position. Good prospects for the right candidate. Apply within.

Think he wanted £2k a week, which was ridiculous money in those days. Remember one of the players later saying it might have paid off if he'd got us into Europe.

    Indeed!

Before he played for Villa, Sampdoria (I think), Bari and gained about a million caps for England!!

They wanted £250,000 for Platt. Alex Miller was quoted as saying Hibs "wouldn't pay over the odds for any player".

    Good, forward thinking...

Nonsense. Villa got him for less than £200k after gazumping Hibs on an offer that had been accepted.

it's always good bashing one of our cup winning managers, especially one that also gained a lot of respect at a top english premiership club

It's not nonsense at all, thank you very much. That was a direct quote from Miller which I remember well reading at the time. And then reflecting on it a few years later at the height of his fame.

That’s my favourite Scottish football rumour as well 😂

Just imagine a magnificent player like Ronaldinho playing in front of 4,000 people at Love Street next to players like David Van Zanten & Jim Goodwin 😂

Was available for £50k, had a trial with Hibs and scored a hat trick in a closed doors game, it alerted Liverpool and that was that...

Did he not miss an absolute bowler of an open goal for Liverpool? Sure it was well publicised at the time. That’s my abiding memory of him although I might be wrong.

Another good one was Mcleish nearly signing Messi on loan for Rangers (rip)
Also read that Mahrez was at St Mirren but left on a bike as it was too cold. Got to love football at times 😂😂😂

I was told he was the new manager about 10 minutes before Mowbray was unveiled. About as close to being ITK as I ever got.

Never a goer. There's no way Messi would ever get involved in the smell of a large scale tax fraud. Especially if it meant being embroiled in legal action.

I bumped into Bobby Robson in a hotel a couple of years after that. What a lovely guy! He was kind enough to spend an hour or so chatting football with us. It was amazing the players that he had signed - Ronaldo, Romario and Van Nistelroy to name but three...

He shared that he had ACTUALLY been approached about the Hearts job. Met Phil Anderton (sp?) at the time and liked him, also met Romanov , who he was less impressed with , but was originally open to the idea...he then decided that he didn't want to come to Scotland to manage and therefore rejected the deal...we let him know his lucky escape of the madness of that circus..he had already noted the same. I have to say, great guy..was quite inspiring when you heard him chat about football.
