I flew with them to Copenhagen earlier this month, and was very impressed with them. Very efficient, punctual, comfortable planes, wifi in the air... if that is typical for them, I'd reckon they're the best of the budgets.

Norwegian Air
Transatlantic routes, and also Barcelona and Tenerife are being pulled. Story below. Blaming the APD tax, which is fair enough, considering the SNP Government pledged to reduce it but never have.
The low-cost airline, Norwegian, is blaming its retreat from Edinburgh on the Scottish government’s failure to cut tax.
Norwegian will stop flying from Scotland’s busiest airport to Stewart International in upstate New York and Providence, Rhode Island, at the end of the winter season. The links served New York City and Boston respectively.
A Norwegian spokesperson said: “Following a comprehensive review of our services from Edinburgh, we have decided to withdraw routes to the New York and Boston areas, Barcelona and Tenerife with the last flights departing on 30 March 2019.
“Our affordable US flights were launched with the prospect of a reduction in air passenger taxes that was unfortunately postponed by the Scottish government and this has led us to fully withdraw our transatlantic services.”
Air Passenger Duty is £78 for long-haul economy flights from England, Wales and Scotland. Northern Ireland has a special rate of £13, because of competition from airports in the Irish Republic.
But the Norwegian links to Stewart and Providence end on 27 October.

Well not last week I booked a return from NYC to Edinburgh for just before Christmas so they'd bloody well better be keeping them going until end of March.

This appears to indicate that the Providence one is off from end of October and NYC from end of March

Whilst they may have a case about APD, maybe the flights to "remote" airports just weren't attractive enough.

Compared with my experience on the return with RyanAir, they were superb.

That would be a shame. Norwegian Air are a budget airline but with a bit of style. Cut above Ryanfreight and Easyjoke.

I’ve just booked with Norwegian, today. From New York to Edinburgh, £90. Great price.
Flying to Miami, from Edinburgh, via Heathrow, on 28th December, £800 one way!!! Then Miami to New York on 4th Jan, £160. Then New York back home on the 7th. £90 is unreal.

That is very true. It is a Globespan type business but much bigger.
British Airways bought a 5% stake in the company so they could pick up some of the business quickly if anything went wrong.
Vueling and Iberia are also in the same overall company as BA. Could be a lucrative share holding if all their landing slots became available.

I’d never travelled with Norwegian Air but I’d heard a lot of positives about them. My wife was thinking of flying with them to a cheaper New York holiday. Scuppered now

In June I flew to JFK for £380 return with Delta. Considering this was direct and included luggage it was an absolute bargain. Had my own personal IFE with 100s of movies and free bar, snacks and dinner all included. Even got a hot cloth to freshen myself up lol.
Also somehow managed to somehow clear customs and security, collect my luggage and be in the taxi to Manhattan within 45 minutes of leaving the plane.

Was that from Edinburgh?
Been to America three times in the last four years and I think we waited at customs longer than it actually took for us to fly there!
