Its automatic I am sure, just means they are 20% cheaper than a taxi doing the same fare.

What it really means is 20% off what's on the meter at the end of the journey. Unfortunately that journey will typically be 50% longer than that of the same taxi journey as the driver will follow whatever directions he gets from his sat nav.
Personally wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

In my experience the private hire companies in Edinburgh are excellent and offer good value. Never had any issues. I often use blacks too and they’re generally fine although I quite often seem to get a driver who has a massive chip on his shoulder about pretty much everything. Too much anger.

What Hibs are actually doing here is supporting the casualisation of an industry where a decent living was once the trade-off for carrying all the risk of self employment.

It's so symptomatic of the culture we've become where it's all about instant gratification and the consequences are something that others can maybe deal with.

I could mention that kids will hardly move to let you past on the pavement or throw junk in your garden when a litter bin is 3 yards away. All part of the "modern way of living" . women pushing baby buggies while on the phone, and walking in front of my large van at a crossroads, ah well that's a whole different situation if she also has her earplugs oan and it just so happens that the wean and her are mowed doon by me.

I used to be mate but not any more. I could see where it, and this type of workplace that could be taken advantage of was going. Not going to lie, it's a very tempting service as the world we've been forced into living in over the last 30 years has made us think about price first. If you're forking out half your wage to some landlord, can you literally afford to take a moral stance when it comes to relatively trivial things like transport?

The American digital giants are taking advantage of, and actually encouraging this culture we talk about. It's almost like a form of colonisation.

That used to be the case with black cab drivers but there seems to be an ever increasing number of street cabs that are driven by guys with apparent limited knowledge of Edinburgh in my experience.

I use CC when the Uber surge is too high. I actually prefer Uber but they’re getting a little too handy with their surge charges at the moment.

Both use sat Nav and ask if you have a preferred route.

Last black cab I took didn’t take card so that was the end of that nonsense.

Black cabs will go the same way as Kodak and Blockbuster if they don’t learn to evolve with the times. Regardless if their drivers know the route or not.

City Cabs have the same system as Uber in that you download the app load in your credit card details and you have cashless journeys .
Through in the fact that you could possibly have Alex Cropley or Gordon Hunter driving you safely to your destination , you know it makes sense.
