Another tough night for the Scotland Under 20s - just completely overpowered really, nothing they could do, that's just their level unfortunately.

That's 10 straight losses at that grade now, lost all five in the Six Nations last year and lost all five again this year. Conceded 25+ points in each of the 10 games.

So not much coming through it seems.

good article by Tom English Six Nations 2022: Scotland going backwards & to say otherwise is delusional - BBC Sport

doesn't say much about Townsend either that he hoped the story wouldn't break...as if the players wouldn't be spotted in Rose Street let himself and Scottish Rugby down Hogg not to mention the others, finn russell AGAIN along with Price, Tuipulotu, Darcy Graham and Sam Johnson.

Hogg should consider announcing he's standing down, rather than have somebody else do it for him. Either way, it's hard to imagine him captaining this team. Can he stand in front of the rest of the squad and talk about standards when he, himself, has fallen so short?

Hogg and others like to talk about the good culture in the squad. Unquestionably, there are loads of terrific pros in that group - those are the ones you feel sorry for. They've been badly let down by the six - and by the management who took little or no action against them.
Perhaps Hogg will be rested for the summer tour and somebody else will be appointed to the role and that will be the succession done without a fanfare.

On the face of it a few beers after a win a week before the next game sounds like a very good idea in terms of relaxation for a few hours. Should have been run past the coaches or maybe it was and the players reneged and went anyway. Is the e any link to the pre match press conference English was referring to?

Personally I don't really see the issue with them going out, if they got absolutely hammered that's another story but is it really that bad to fly home after a victory in Rome and have a few beers with teammates? Seems like a storm in a teacup to me.

Agreed and sounds like Townsend is a dictator.

I bumped into the French boys outside Brewhemia in Edinburgh after they hammered Scotland. I even got a photo with the centre, Danty, who was outside having a smoke. It didn’t seem to do the French any harm!

That’s the rugby culture in France though, and given Finn plays there, it’s not surprising he see’s no issue with going out for a few beers after a win.

It was, according to the Exeter coach.

Stuart Hogg fell foul of Scotland 'ambiguity', says Exeter Chiefs' Rob Baxter - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/60863536

The players will have agreed the rules prior to the tournament and blatantly went against them. Sounds like they weren't happy with the "treatment" of or the celebration for Ali Price's 50th cap.

Tom Smith has died this evening at just 50 years old. Absolutely one of the greatest props to ever play for Scotland and the Lions. RIP

How sad is that. Brilliant player and was huge in the legendary Lions tour in South Africa with Telfer and McGeechan. Saw an interview not that long ago and he seemed like a very humble guy with a great sense of humour. RIP Tom.

Really good second half from us tonight. The referee was utterly awful though - not even a TMO saved him from some terrible decisions. Do French refs get taught offside, or do Bath have some kind of immunity?

That's still with us missing Ritchie, Darcy, Owsley, Nel...some really great depth in this current Edinburgh team.
Madness, as you know, is a lot like gravity. All it takes is a little push.

I don`t really follow rugby but have just read about Spain`s expulsion from next year`s world cup .4 years ago they missed out on qualification for 2019 WC for some off field reason too . At that time it seemed very unfair , this time it seems to be down to incompetence of administrators . Anyway , apparently Rumania will take Spain`s place and Portugal are now in play playoffs
. Spanish problem concerned documents of a South African who had lived in Spain for a while before playing for Spain because of residence and questions about how long he`d lived in Spain without interruption . Reading Spanish sports paper Marca , another Spanish international from outside Spain ( France ) criticised the Spanish federation for incompetence but interestingly that drew many replies along the lines of ( Why criticise Spain as it`s the country that`s given you the chance to play international rugby? ). One other comment mentioned that Scotland had started a recent 6 Nations match with only 2 players who had been born in Scotland .

A tough first defeat at the DAM last night against an admittedly very good Ulster side.

Almost grabbed the win at the death, but wasn't to be. Great to see the place sold out - was an incredible atmosphere at times.

How Ben Whitehouse earns a wage as a referee will forever be a mystery to me though - some of his decisions last nighth were absolutely awful.

Still, into the playoffs of the URC!

Edinburgh vs Glasgow tonight at BT Murrayfield in the final URC game of the season (and round 2 of the 1872 Cup).

Looking forward to it - both teams have named strong lineups, so it should be a cracker.

Phil Bennett died aged 73. Great Welsh fly half. I remember him waltzing through Scots defence at Murrayfield to score. Rugby was brilliant in those days.
